Grubs: What are Grubs in League of Legends?

Void Grubs are an epic jungle objective introduced toward the end of Season 13. They are part of Riot’s ongoing effort to diversify early-game objectives and encourage more coordinated team play, especially around the top side of the map. These creatures spawn in the Baron pit before Rift Herald appears and are crucial for teams looking to gain early siege power.

What Do Void Grubs Do?

Void Grubs spawn in waves of three, with a potential total of six per game. When slain, they grant a stacking buff that spawns Void Mites[1]—small units that deal chip damage to turrets when attacking alongside allied champions. While the mites do damage similar to a low-health melee minion, their true value lies in compounding tower pressure during early game sieges.

Junglers benefit too, killing a grub provides 75 XP, and each grub grants 20 gold to the killer and 10 gold to all allies. Additionally, they contribute to jungle item progression, making them a valuable early pathing objective.

When Do Grubs Spawn?

The first wave spawns at 6:00 minutes, and if all are cleared by 9:45, a second wave appears. After this window, Rift Herald replaces the Grubs, marking their limited-time availability.

How to Kill Void Grubs Efficiently

Grubs attack when provoked and reset their health if only one is killed, making sustained AoE damage essential. Bringing an ally helps, and champions like Zyra, with pets or plants, excel due to high DPS and range.

Why Were Void Grubs Introduced?

Void Grubs were designed to shake up the early-game jungle meta, create strategic variety, and reward map coordination. Their introduction demands better jungler pathing, lane priority, and team synergy, even in low Elo.
