LCK: What is the LCK?

The LCK is the top professional League of Legends league in South Korea. In 2025, it moved to a new setup under one season, split into five rounds, plus a special LCK Cup tournament at the start.

LCK Cup runs from January 15 to February 23. Ten teams compete in two groups using Fearless Draft, where once a champion is picked in the series, it cannot be picked again. Winners advance to playoffs, and the champion earns a spot at the First Stand international tournament in March.

The LCK houses some of the most popular League of Legends [1] teams, including T1, Hanwha Life Esports, and Gen.G. These three usually rule the region with an iron fist, and also frequently go on to win large-scale international tournaments.

What is the LCK’s format?

After the Cup, the main season begins in April and runs until late September.

Rounds 1–2 (April 2-June 1): All ten teams play a double round robin in best-of‑three matches. The top six qualify for a separate Road to MSI tournament in early June that decides two slots to represent Korea at MSI.

Rounds 3–5 (July 23-August 31): Teams are split into Legend Group (top five) and Rise Group (bottom five), based on their performance in Rounds 1–2. They play three full round robins within each group, still in Bo3 format. Results from the first half carry over.

After these rounds, the season enters the Play‑In (early September), where additional teams have a chance to reach playoffs. This is followed by Playoffs (mid to late September) in a double‑elimination bracket of best-of‑five matches to crown the LCK champion and decide Worlds qualification.
