Outpost:

An Outpost is a neutral map objective in Dota 2 that can be captured to give a team strategic map control and vision-related benefits.

Outposts matter because they help a team hold territory, watch enemy movement, and create safer positions for farming or setting up fights. Capturing one usually requires controlling the area around it first, so it often becomes a contest point after lane phase or before major objectives. Because Outposts are placed away from the main lanes, they also serve as checkpoints that reward teams for moving across the map and defending key space.

For example, after winning a teamfight near the river, a team may take the nearby Outpost to extend its control into the enemy side and make the next rotation easier to read.
