A Shrine was a neutral structure in Dota 2 that could be activated to restore health and mana to nearby allied heroes. It gave teams a safe way to recover without returning all the way to base, so shrines were most valuable during laning and early map movements, when staying on the map mattered most. Because shrines were fixed recovery points, controlling the area around them could help a team sustain pressure or defend after a fight. For example, after winning a skirmish near the offlane, a team might use its nearby Shrine to heal up before pushing the next objective.
