Split push is a strategy in which a team applies pressure in multiple lanes at once, often by sending one hero to push a side lane while the rest of the team occupies another part of the map.
In Dota 2, split pushing forces defenders to choose between responding to creeps and defending objectives elsewhere. It matters because it can stretch an enemy lineup thin, create openings to take towers, and buy time when a straight five-on-five fight is unfavorable. Heroes that clear waves quickly, escape well, or threaten buildings are often used for this role. For example, if the enemy team groups near mid, a Nature’s Prophet or Anti-Mage may push a side lane to force a teleport response, creating space for allies to farm or start an objective.
