Leash: What does it mean to leash a jungler in LoL?

A leash is an act in League of Legends [1] where a player helps the jungler eliminate a jungle mob without letting them hurt their teammate. If a player attacks a jungle mob, such as the blue golem, to gain its attention so the jungler can attack and kill it, they’re successfully leashing. Teams leash so junglers can clear camps quickly, take less damage, and move around the area earlier so they can gank opponents.

Although leashing is a strategy that works throughout the match, it’s most prevalent in the early-game phase because it gives the jungler a better start. With a stronger start, a jungler can get better map control and pressure the enemy team, lowering the opponent's morale.

How to leash properly in League of Legends

Wait for the jungler to pick a camp they want to attack and the first monster they want to eliminate. The first monster is usually closest to the jungler’s starting position. Once a jungler picks a target, nearby laners must move quickly toward the camp and initiate an attack on the target. When this happens, the entire camp starts focusing on the laners.

With the camp attacking the laners, junglers must start eliminating the camp by dealing lots of damage. By doing this, the jungler will clear the camp and won’t take a lot of damage. Once the camp has taken a lot of damage, the laners must retreat towards their lane and let the jungler finish their job.

Since the camp has low health, the jungler can finish them off. This entire process saves lots of health and time. The laners and junglers must properly communicate early on so they don't run into hiccups.
