Boost starve, also called boost stealing, is the tactic of denying an opponent access to boost pads so they are forced to move, defend, or challenge with little or no boost. It works by taking the large corner boost, collecting nearby small pads, or positioning between the opponent and available boost so they cannot refill easily.
Boost starving matters because boost controls speed, recoveries, aerial play, and escape options. A player with no boost is easier to pressure, often slower to rotate, and more limited in clears and saves. For example, after an attacker clears the ball toward the opponent’s back corner, a teammate can follow the play, take the corner boost, and collect the nearby small pads, leaving the defender stranded on low boost when the next shot comes in.
