In Path of Exile 2 [1], Chilled Ground is a cold-based effect that slows enemies standing within its area. It applies the chill debuff for as long as a target remains inside it and, by default, lingers for six seconds after being created. Several skills and supports can generate Chilled Ground, often pairing the slowing effect with direct cold damage or freeze buildup.
Some skills, like Fangs of Frost, can create Chilled Ground through their nova form, combining high physical-to-cold conversion with increased freeze buildup. Frostbolt can also produce it, with a smaller radius and shorter duration compared to most sources, but with a stronger chill magnitude. Frozen Locus delivers solid base cold damage and increased freeze buildup while generating a moderate-sized chilled area.
Support gems such as Frost Nexus can indirectly generate Chilled Ground by modifying linked skills. When a linked skill freezes an enemy, Frost Nexus causes Chilled Ground to appear for eight seconds at the location of the frozen target, adding an extra layer of control to cold-based builds. The consistent slowing field provided by Chilled Ground can significantly improve crowd control and survivability in combat, making it a valuable secondary effect in many cold-oriented setups.
