Unstable Molecules are a new currency introduced in Marvel Rivals, created for players to customize the colors of select hero costumes. These alternate color options are available only for certain skins, and players can identify eligible ones by spotting a small color palette icon next to the bundle in the in-game store.

How do you access Color Customizations?

To access color costumes, you must first own the base version of the costume for a specific hero. Once you’ve unlocked that skin, visit the store and look for a small color palette icon next to the costume bundle. This icon signifies that alternate color options are available for that outfit.

How do you get Unstable Molecules?

To purchase a single color variant, you'll need 600 Unstable Molecules. These molecules are acquired through the use of Lattice, another in-game currency^[1]. The conversion rate is 1:1, so 600 Lattice equals 600 Unstable Molecules.

Currently, Unstable Molecules can only be obtained via this Lattice exchange system. There’s no option to purchase them directly using Units, the game's primary premium currency. This has raised some criticism from the community.

Why are players criticizing the system?

Many players feel the system is too costly. Since color variants require purchasing the base skin first, followed by additional Lattice to unlock recolors, the total investment can feel excessive—especially with no option to use Units for these purchases.

What can we expect in the future?

The developers have confirmed that more custom color options and new ways to earn Unstable Molecules will arrive in Season 3. This may include free methods, event rewards, or gameplay incentives, helping make the system more accessible to all players.
