Heroes in Overwatch 2 are all the characters players can play as in the game. They're various named characters, each with their own personalities, back stories, and unique abilities that set them apart from the rest. Now, if you’re caught up with the lore of Overwatch 2 [1] then you might be a little confused as to why they’re all called heroes when some of them (like Reaper and Doomfist) are clearly villains. This is because ‘Heroes’ is more of a broad term used to generalize every single playable character in Overwatch 2.
Heroes come in all different types, and different types of players are drawn to different types of heroes. Additionally, every hero has their own predetermined role which affects how their abilities are. For example, a tank hero will usually have abilities that help them keep themselves or their teammates alive.
Each hero in Overwatch 2 has its unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and players must work together to create a balanced team composition that can counter the enemy team's composition.
What Hero Roles are in Overwatch 2?
As mentioned above, the heroes in Overwatch 2 are categorized into several classes based on their role in the game. To be more specific, there are three hero roles in this game, and those are:
- Tank: Tank heroes have high health and defensive abilities that protect their team. They are typically positioned at the front of the team and absorb damage, creating space for their allies to move forward.
- DPS: DPS, or damage per second heroes deal the majority of the team's damage output and are supported by both the tanks as well as the support heroes to ensure they’re able to get as many eliminations for the team as possible.
- Support: Support heroes provide healing and utility to their team. They can keep their teammates alive, boost their damage, and provide crowd control abilities.
