In Rocket League [1], an aerial means hitting the ball mid-air. Not to be confused with a plain jump shot, aerials require cars to fly up very high by using their boost to propel upwards and then touch the ball. Players do aerials for multiple reasons, like defending the goal, setting up a shot for the teammate, pulling out some cool air dribbles, or simply keeping the ball out of the opponent’s grasp and control.
Aerials are considered one of the most difficult techniques in Rocket League because they need a mastery of car control. Not just in the ground and how much boost to use, but also how much to tilt, how often to tilt and micro-adjust, and then trying to hit the perfect spot.
There are two factors to keep in mind when hitting aerials in Rocket League. The two keys are jumping and controlling the car in mid-air.
Starting with how to jump, players simply have to jump, tilt their car upwards, and then start boosting. Even though this sounds simple, it’s a tough technique to learn, especially for beginners.
Then we have to control our car now that it’s off the ground. Slightly tilt left or right to get the basics down on how to move the car mid-air and adjust according to the ball’s location. Once comfortable with that, try tilting upwards and downwards and get the hang of it.
The best way to practice for both is by using Rocket League’s built-in practice feature. Start from beginner, and once the player has achieved the max score, go on to the next difficulty. After finishing practice in all difficulty settings, go for custom practice maps to take aerials to the next level.
