Your radar in CS2 [1] is more than just a map. It shows where your teammates are, where enemies were last seen, and where the bomb has been dropped. It also tells you when someone dies, or if an enemy has been spotted or lost. Mastering the radar is a key part of getting better at the game. And now, you can change its shape.
Valve has added a square radar option. While the round version is the default, many players prefer the square layout. It might give you a better view of what’s going on. The good news is that it’s easy to switch and fully reversible. You can also adjust other radar settings from the menu, no console needed.
Here’s what to know about changing your radar shape in Counter-Strike 2.
What is the importance of your radar in CS2
In CS2, radar provides players with some essential information, such as the position of their teammates and opponents. These are indicated by blue (CT) or yellow (dots) on the radar. Adding on, the radar allows you to see the position of your opponents, who are not visible normally. However, red dots appear on the radar whenever your teammates spot opponents. A question mark appears when your teammate has lost sight of the enemy. Aside from these, you can also see dead players, which are indicated with an X symbol, and bomb positions on the radar.
How to change the shape of your radar in CS2
Valve has introduced a new radar option in Counter-Strike 2. Players can now switch from the traditional round radar to a square one. This change might help with visibility or personal preference since it offers a slightly different way to view the map. However, the square radar is not turned on by default, and you will need to enable it manually through the in-game settings menu.
To change the shape of your radar to a square in CS2:
Launch Counter-Strike 2 and open the Settings menu by clicking the gear icon in the top-left corner.
Go to the Game tab.
From there, find the Radar section.
Look for an option called “Toggle square shape with a scoreboard.” Click on it and choose “Yes” from the drop-down menu.
Right below that, find “Force square shape” and set that to “Yes” too.
Once both options are enabled, your radar will change to a square layout. Try it out in a few matches and see if it helps you track information more clearly. If you try the square radar and decide it is not for you, do not worry. You can switch back to the classic circular style radar any time by returning to the same settings menu and changing it back.

How to customize your radar in Counter-Strike 2
CS2 makes it much easier to adjust game settings, including the radar. Unless it’s your preference, using console commands isn't necessary anymore. Everything you need to change in your radar settings is now in the in-game menu. Here’s how to set up a new radar in CS2:
Launch CS2 and click the gear icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
Go to the Game tab.
Head down to the Radar selection or select it from the menu at the top.
Adjust your radar settings however you’d like.
You can still use radar-related console commands if you prefer. Some players like to use them, especially when setting up the game on a new computer. These commands can be entered in the developer console for more control, just like the launch options.
