How to get the best Rocket League settings for controller

How to get the best Rocket League settings for controller

Rocket League is a game that combines soccer with cars that lets you control your rocket-powered car through various inputs like a keyboard/mouse and controller. Out of these two, most players prefer a controller due to its extra accuracy and precision. Additionally, it's more comfortable for some to lay back and play the game rather than sitting upright.

In this article, we'll understand precisely why people use controllers over other input devices and how to get the best settings. The settings we'll be going over include the sensitivity, why some players prefer playing Rocket League with a controller instead of with a keyboard/mouse, and other controller-related settings.

So, without further ado, here are the best Rocket League settings for controllers. Of course, if the goal is to climb the ranks then you can always hire a professional-level player from Eloking to help you get to the rank you deserve. Why do people prefer a controller over a Keyboard/Mouse in Rocket League

Overview of Rocket League Standard Controls on a Gamepad

The main reason players think a controller is better is thanks to its triggers and analogs. Controllers have a full 360 range of motion, and people who use them can steer more accurately, unlike keyboards, which only have an 8-way directional input.

In addition, controllers let you move the camera around so you always know what's happening in your surroundings.

What are the best controller settings in Rocket League?

Now that we know why people prefer a controller. Let's check what the best controller settings are in Rocket League.

Camera settings

Let's discuss the camera first since almost everyone has trouble adjusting it, especially newbies. The thing is that there's no objectively best camera setting, but you can adjust it to suit your playstyle. However, just because there's no perfect setting doesn't mean there are certain things every player changes.

For example, disabling camera shake is a universal constant among players who take Rocket League seriously, and it's one of the first things everyone will change. Another thing that most people change is the FoV, with people (including me) preferring a higher FoV so we can look at more stuff while chasing the ball.

Keybinds

Now, the thing with key binds in Rocket League is that there are numerous inputs you can change. For this article, we'll just look at standard controllers, the ones without backpedals.

  • Boost: Starting with boost. The default controls will have it on the right side of your controller, meaning you'll be jumping and boosting using the same finger. That's not a good idea if you want to go pro, so we suggest you move the boost button to any bumper or trigger so you can jump and boost simultaneously for those aerials.
  • Air roll: You can air roll using your analog sticks, but if you want good precision, you'll bind it to the left and right bumpers/triggers. That way, you'll be able to move around while simultaneously pulling off barrel rolls. Another small tip is that you can bind analog air roll and powerslide to the same button, as they won't interfere with each other.

Sensitivity

Onto the final piece of the puzzle. Sensitivity! The thing about the sensitivity is that, unlike the previous types of settings, you don't need to change them unless you feel uncomfortable with the default ones because this is purely based on what you like.

Like other games, low sensitivity is always better if you want to make more precise movements, but honestly? We don't think it matters as much as compared to shooting games. If you change it, keep the aerial sensitivity and steering the same because it can confuse you mid-game.

FAQs

There's no objectively "best" setting, but disabling camera shake and increasing FoV are universally recommended. Experiment to find what suits your playstyle!
Controllers offer a full 360-degree range of motion with analog sticks, allowing for more precise steering. Triggers also provide finer control over acceleration and braking.
Binding air roll to the left and right bumpers/triggers gives you better precision than using the analog sticks. You can also bind air roll and powerslide to the same button.
Sensitivity is mostly based on personal preference. If you're uncomfortable with the default settings, adjust them, but keep aerial and steering sensitivity the same to avoid confusion.
Move boost to a bumper or trigger button. This allows you to jump and boost simultaneously for better aerial control. The default setting makes this difficult.
