Valorant Champions Tour 2025: Everything We Know

Valorant Champions Tour 2025: Everything We Know

Valorant is one of the hottest esports titles right now, and that’s despite the fact it’s a free-to-play game. The many tournaments that were held in 2024 were received fantastically by fans, and now anxious fans are waiting to see what the game holds in 2025. Fortunately, fans don’t necessarily have to wait too long.

Today, we’re here to go through everything we know about Valorant Champions Tour 2025. This includes what the format will be, the schedule, venues, and all of the key changes players can expect to see in the upcoming tournament. Naturally, we’ll also answer questions like why the changes matter and how it’ll affect the overall tournament going forward.

So, without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about the Valorant Champions Tour 2025.

The New VCT 2025 Format

The Valorant Champions Tour 2025 is making the competition even more intense with a reworked structure. The tournament will feature four international leagues (EMEA, Americas, Pacific, and China), now having 12 teams, comprising 10 partner teams and 2 squads promoted from Ascension.

Each league will kick off with regional tournaments featuring a double-elimination format. Moreover, the top 4 teams from last year get to skip straight to the second round. From these tournaments, the top two teams in each region will secure their spots at Master’s Bangkok, the first global showdown of the year.

These regional tournaments will be followed by a Swiss Stage at the Masters events, where 8 teams will battle through. Round 1 pairs top seeds against second seeds from other regions. The top 4 teams then move to a double-elimination playoff where the stakes grow higher.

Additionally, the Championship Points system is also back, rewarding consistent teams and giving more ways for them to rack points up. The leagues themselves are split into two stages with a fresh format. Here, teams are divided into two groups of six, where the top four from each group move on to an extended 8-team playoff bracket. Masters events such as Masters Bangkok and Masters Toronto will stick to their Swiss stages and double-elimination playoffs.

Key Changes in the VCT 2025

2025 Valorant Masters in Bangkok and Toronto

The structure of the competition has been tweaked a bit, so let's break it down. Firstly, each international league now includes 12 teams instead of 10, which makes sense keeping in mind the inclusion of two Ascension teams in each league.

Teams from Ascension will also face new rules that keep things balanced. Teams finishing 9th-12th will be relegated to the VCL, while the Ascension runner-up will qualify for the VCT if both non-partnered Ascension teams are relegated. Teams finishing 5th-8th can compete in Ascension to have a retaining chance, while the top 4 earn automatic VCT qualification for the following year.

Moreover, instead of a full-season round-robin format, the 2025 VCT now has a group-stage format. Each region has two groups of six teams, where the top four from each group will advance to an 8-team playoff bracket. The Kickoff events also see a key change, and now feature a double-elimination format, with the top 2 teams from each regional tournament advancing to Masters Bangkok.

Championship Points Change and its Impact

Overview of the 2025 VCT teams across different regions.

Championship Points (CP) are crucial for teams trying to qualify for major events like Masters and Champions. Teams rack up CP based on how they perform in Kickoff events, Masters, and League stages. In the 2025 VCT season, the teams can now earn points at different stages of the tournament, and the system gives more points to the top finishers at Masters and Playoffs, meaning every part of the season will count. For example, the top 4 teams in Kickoffs and Masters earn CP, with Masters offering up to 5 points to the winner.

The new format for Champions qualification puts a heavy focus on Championship Points where two teams get in directly from the Stage 2 Playoffs and two more based on total points. Even if a team didn't make it through the early stages, they can still have a shot at Champions if they perform consistently.

FAQs

Why do these changes matter for the future?

The revamped format is shaking things up for both fans and teams. For teams, the new structure including the double-elimination regional tournaments and the return of Championship Points definitely adds layers of strategy and depth. Teams will have to focus a lot on consistency across different stages and will have to adapt at every level.

The reception towards the changes has been a bit mixed. Some like the competitive variation and diversity, while some say the adjustments could use some tuning. The 8-team Masters format in particular has sparked some debate, and how it might feel less prestigious than before. The addition of academy teams, though, has been seen as a huge step towards developing the tier-2 scene. Overall, it seems Riot is pushing things in the right direction to keep competitive Valorant fresh and fair.
