Have you ever made such an insane play in Overwatch 2 that you just HAD to save it and share it with your friends? Well, it's a good thing the game makes it so incredibly easy to save, share, and watch highlights from your time playing Overwatch 2. With that being said, some players might be a little confused as to how the highlight system even works.
Every time you play matches in Overwatch 2, the game automatically saves your highlights. To be more specific, your top 5 highlights of the day are recorded. To save a highlight, all you have to do is go to the history tab on the top right corner of the main menu and right click on the highlight you want to save. Here, you'll see the save option.
As usual, we're here to go through everything you need to know about saving highlights in Overwatch 2.
How Do You Save Highlights in Overwatch 2?
So, getting right into the meat and potatoes of this article, how do you save highlights in Overwatch 2? To save a highlight, you have to:
Go to the Main Menu and click on the Career Profile section (hopefully your game doesn't get stuck on initializing)
Locate the History tab in the top corner and click on it.
From here, select the Highlights tab.
Now, you want to right click any highlight that is worth saving and select the Save option.
Select the preferable resolution and size settings for the saved videos on the new window that pops up.
Confirm everything and save the video.
Where Can You Find Saved Highlights
Once you've manually saved a highlight to your device's storage, you can find those said saved highlights easily by simply:
Going to your file explorer application
Typing Overwatch in the search bar
Double clicking the Overwatch 2 folder that pops up
Clicking on the "saved videos" folder that should be in the Overwatch folder
Alternatively, depending on your settings, you also might have to go to the videos or documents folder and then locate the "Overwatch" folder inside to view your saved clips.
How Does Overwatch 2 Save Highlights
Of course, there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind before you go about saving your highlights. The most important thing you need to know is how Overwatch 2 even saves highlights and match recordings. Well, you might have noticed that there are two sections in the history tab.
The first section shows your highlights. These are the top 5 highlights of the day that Overwatch 2 automatically saves. How are highlights determined, you ask? Well, when the game detects that you have a bunch of eliminations in a short period of time, or if you get a play of the game, chances are it will be saved in the 'todays top 5 highlights' section.
Additionally, the game also records up to five of your full match recordings. Because of this, if you wanted a very specific section of a match that you recently played, you can simply save the full match recordings and trim it so only that specific section is saved. This way you can save the clip of when you finally managed to counter Tracer. Try to save your clips quickly, as once a highlight or match gets overwritten, it can't be recovered.

Other Ways to Save Overwatch 2 Highlights
Of course, there are other ways to save your Overwatch 2 highlights as well. If you don't trust the automatic recording feature of Overwatch 2, then we recommend you use one of the following methods depending on what device you're using to play the game.
Desktop
If you're playing Overwatch 2 on a desktop, then it might be a good idea to use recording software that automatically records your gameplay. Bandicam, for example, is a good and reliable software that content creators have been using for several years now.
The only major downside of it is that you have to manually turn the software on and off. This means that if you forget to turn it on, then you might accidentally miss recording a highlight. Similarly, if you forget to turn it off then you might fill your storage with otherwise useless recordings of completely ordinary matches.
PlayStation
The best way to record a highlight on a Playstation console is by simply clicking the "share" button on your controller and clicking the save video option. For those who don't know, the share button is located at the top right of the touchpad and is recognized by three lines.
The default duration of the saved recording is 3 minutes. However, it can be changed from the settings to be as little as 30 seconds, which makes saving a short highlight much easier.
Xbox
Xbox players can use the dedicated record button to save their matches. Simply hold the button and enable the recording of matches. Do ensure the clips don't end up hogging your storage, though, as that will lead to a completely different problem
Nintendo Switch
Switch players can hold the capture button to save the last thirty seconds of your Overwatch 2 play. This means you'll have to be quick to ensure the highlight you want to share is saved.
