Overwatch 2 may have seen a rocky launch, but the game has bounced back, and much of that is thanks to the game’s frequent introduction of new limited-time game modes and collaborations. With the NERF event ongoing, it makes sense that Blizzard would want to release a limited-time mode, and that’s exactly what happened.
Overwatch 2’s new NERF or Nothin’ game mode is a limited-time free-for-all game mode that includes champions using NERF’s unique cosmetic weapons to take the enemy down while barely having any ability cooldown. The game rotates heroes for players, which ensures everyone tries someone new.
Here’s what to know about the Overwatch 2 NERF or Nothin’ game mode and when it goes away.
How does Overwatch 2’s NERF or Nothin’ mode work?
In Overwatch 2’s NERF or Nothin’, the goal is to be the first to score 20 eliminations in a free-for-all mode. Players begin with a random hero, with everyone being included in the pool aside from Mercy and Lifeweaver. The hero automatically rotates after each kill or three deaths, ensuring players aren’t stuck on the same hero without getting a single kill.
Every hero only comes once per match, which ensures that players must adapt to multiple heroes instead of only playing whatever they’re most comfortable with. Everyone benefits from an 80% cooldown reduction, and dying does not reset your Ultimate. Instead, players respawn with 15% Ultimate charge already filled, allowing high-frequency ability use and quick comebacks.
As for the maps, the mode is slated to include Chateau, Petra, Kanezaka, Malevento, King’s Row, Hollywood, Dorado, Eichenwalde, Blizzard World, and Paris. The mode is most like Call of Duty’s classic gun game mode, though the difference is that players swap heroes instead of guns.

When does Overwatch 2’s NERF or Nothin’ mode go away?
Overwatch 2’s NERF or Nothin’ game mode is slated to last as long as the collaboration, which is August 18, 2025. This gives players more than enough time to hop into the game and start playing the mode to earn in-game rewards, including a skin for Tracer and a bunch of Battle Pass XP up for grabs.
