LoL Worlds 2024 Tournament Format

E-sports event in a large arena with enthusiastic audience

League of Legends Worlds 2024 will start with the Play-In Stage. 8 teams will battle in a double-elimination format. This is to make sure only the best teams make it through to the next stage. Teams that make it through to the Swiss Stage will then join 12 pre-qualified teams, which is when the real competition will begin.

The Swiss Stage is designed to be very challenging, and each team will have to give their 100% to survive. The teams will face off in a best-of-one format, and each matchup will be based on similar win-loss records. Teams that are about to advance or be eliminated will engage in a best-of-three series, and only the top eight teams will make it through to the Knockout Stage.

Things will only get more intense in the Knockout Stage, as the teams will compete in a single-elimination bracket. Every match will be a best-of-five showdown, and this phase will demand each team’s best performance as the slightest slip-up could mean the end of their journey. The tournament will see its end in the grand final on November 2, where the 2 best teams will clash for the prize: the Summoner’s Cup and $450,000 in winnings.

FAQs

What are the teams to watch in LoL Worlds 2024?

There's a good mix of underdog teams and intense rivalries that will keep fans excited throughout the tournament. Gen.G Esports, Hanwha Life Esports, Bilibili Gaming, G2 Esports, and FlyQuest are undoubtedly the favorites, as they’ve been performing consistently in leagues, and will be eyeing the top spot on the global stage.

Gen.G and Hanwha Life in particular are known for their depth in strategy and skill, making them some of the strongest contenders. G2 Esports and FlyQuest also have a great track record and fans have high expectations from them.

Which teams are the underdogs in LoL Worlds 2024?

There’s a good mix of underdogs in the Play-In Stage as well. Teams like MAD Lions KOI and 100 Thieves have been pretty consistent but sometimes find themselves overshadowed by the big names.

Top Esports are also more than capable of taking down some top-tier competition, especially on top of that performance against Gen.G at the Esports World Cup. Among the rivalries to keep an eye on, the clash between LPL and LCK is always special. Bilibili and Gen.G also have a history of high-voltage encounters, with close contests and high stakes.
