MSI: What is MSI in League of Legends?

MSI, or the Mid-Season Invitational [1], is an annual League of Legends tournament that Riot Games themselves host. Aside from the World Championship tournament, this is considered to be the most important and most viewed tournament when it comes to LoL.

Only teams that have won the spring split in their regional leagues (such as LCS for the United States or Canada, and LPL for China) can participate in the MSI, as it has been like this since 2017.

The Mid-Season Invitational has been held at either the end of April or the beginning of May every year since 2015, with 2020 being the only exception. Because of Covid-19, the 2020 Invitational was canceled, and the online Mid-Season Streamathon took place instead.

When it comes to actually getting wins in this tournament, however, the Chinese esports professional team ‘Royal Never Give Up’ [2] has easily been the most successful, with it having three MSI titles under its belt. One win was back in 2018, while the other two have been the more recent 2021 and 2022 tournaments.

Of course, one of the biggest reasons they’re able to win in such a huge tournament so many times is that they have optimized their game settings to get that extra advantage. If you want to do the same, then here are the best settings for League of Legends.

Similar to the regional tournaments (LEC, LCS, LCK, LMS, LPL), the MSI gets most of its viewership from platforms such as Twitch and Youtube, where more than 100,000 players tune in every year. The physical location, however, is never set and is always rotating.

Is MSI the most prestigious tournament in LoL?

The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is a major international tournament in the game League of Legends, and it is considered to be one of the most prestigious events in the game's competitive scene. However, it is not necessarily the most prestigious tournament in the game.

The World Championship, which takes place at the end of each competitive season, is generally considered to be the most prestigious tournament in League of Legends. The World Championship brings together the best teams from around the world to compete for the title of world champion and a large cash prize. The MSI tournament is also considered to be prestigious, but it is not necessarily the most prestigious tournament in the game.

When and where was the first MSI event?

The first Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) tournament was held in 2015. The event took place in Tallahassee, Florida, USA. The tournament featured 14 teams from around the world, including North America, Europe, China, and Korea. The winning team of the tournament was SK Telecom T1 [3], a professional team from Korea. Since its inception in 2015, the MSI tournament has been held every year, and it has become one of the most prestigious events in the League of Legends competitive scene.

Are there also fresh teams in MSI or only veteran teams?

While some of the teams that participate in the MSI tournament are veteran teams that have been around for a long time, the tournament also often features fresh teams that are new to the competitive scene. Some of these fresh teams may have been formed recently, or they may be made up of players who are new to the professional level of play. The MSI tournament provides an opportunity for fresh teams to showcase their skills and compete against some of the best teams in the world.

What are the most exciting and unexpected moments in MSI history?

Some of the most exciting and unexpected moments in the tournament's history include:

Has anyone been caught cheating in the MSI?

Cheating is generally not tolerated in professional esports tournaments, and players who are caught cheating can face severe consequences, including disqualification from the tournament and bans from future competitions. There have been a few instances in which players have been caught cheating in the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) tournament, but these cases are relatively rare.

In most cases, players who are caught cheating are immediately disqualified from the tournament and banned from future competitions. Cheating can have a negative impact on the integrity of the tournament and the overall esports scene, and it is important for players and tournament organizers to take steps to prevent and punish cheating in order to maintain the fairness and competitiveness of professional esports.
