Can’t Change Aspect Ratio in CS:GO? Fixed

cant-change-aspect-ratio-in-csgo

While Valve’s CS:GO has been around for many years at this point, many different issues still keep popping up for players which might dwindle their enjoyment. The developers, Valve, give players multiple options to personalize their gameplay and one such option is the ability to change the aspect ratio. However, there may be instances where players encounter difficulties in modifying the aspect ratio.

There are a couple of things you can do to troubleshoot this strange issue. Of course, the first thing is to ensure there’s nothing wrong with your game’s settings. Your resolution settings and the settings from your graphics control panel are also important to check. If all the settings are alright, the last thing you can do is verify game files and update drivers.

We’ll be going in depth regarding everything related to fixing the issue of your aspect ratio not being changed.

Check Game Settings

Naturally, the first thing you should do is to check your game settings to ensure there’s nothing wrong on that front. Start by accessing the options menu within the game and navigating to the video settings.

Look for the aspect ratio setting, typically represented as a ratio such as 16:9 or 4:3. Ensure that it is set to the desired ratio. Double-check that you have applied the changes and restart the game to see if the modification takes effect. Yes, it is important for you to restart the game otherwise the applied settings might not take effect.

Check Resolution Settings

Aspect ratio and resolution are closely related, and sometimes issues with the aspect ratio can be tied to resolution settings. Ensure that the resolution you are using is compatible with the desired aspect ratio. For example, if you want to switch to a 4:3 aspect ratio, make sure that you select a resolution that supports that aspect ratio.

Experiment with different resolutions that correspond to your preferred aspect ratio and observe if it resolves the problem. Remember to apply the changes and restart the game to see the effects.

Use the Graphics Card Control Panel

If changing the aspect ratio within the game settings doesn't yield the desired results, it's worth exploring your graphics card control panel settings. Graphics card manufacturers like NVIDIA and AMD provide control panel software that allows you to adjust various display settings, including aspect ratio.

Access your graphics card control panel, which can typically be found in your system tray or by right clicking on your desktop and selecting the appropriate option. Look for settings related to the aspect ratio or display scaling. Adjust these settings to match your preferred aspect ratio and see if it reflects in CS:GO when you relaunch the game.

Ensure Launch Options Are Correct

CS:GO allows for custom launch options that can influence various settings, including aspect ratio. To access launch options-

  1. Right click on CS:GO in your Steam library
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click on ‘Set Launch Options’

If you have any launch options present, review them to ensure that they do not conflict with or override the aspect ratio settings. Some launch options related to resolution or aspect ratio may interfere with your desired settings. Remove any conflicting launch options, save the changes, and launch the game to see if the issue is resolved.

Verify Game Files and Update Graphics Drivers

The final thing you should do to potentially fix your aspect ratio issue is to verify the game files and update graphics drivers. Corrupted game files or outdated graphics drivers can sometimes cause aspect ratio issues. To address this, verify the integrity of your CS:GO game files through the Steam client.

  1. Right-click on CS:GO in your Steam library
  2. Go to Properties
  3. Select the Local Files tab
  4. Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files" to initiate the verification process.

This will ensure that all necessary game files are intact and properly installed.

Additionally, check for updates for your graphics card drivers. Outdated drivers can lead to compatibility issues, including problems with aspect ratio settings. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer, locate the appropriate drivers for your card model and operating system, and download the latest version. Install the updated drivers and restart your computer before launching CS:GO again.
