In a competitive FPS game like CS2 where every single advantage can go a long way, something like the recoil animation for weapons can be very distracting. It is for this reason that players prefer turning the animation off entirely to ensure they're able to be as focused as possible. However, not everyone knows how to turn off viewmodel recoil in CS2, similar to how not everyone knows how to change their starting pistol.
To turn off viewmodel recoil in CS2 you first have to enable the developer console. This can be done by going to the CS2 settings and enabling it. With it enabled, you want to bring the console up by pressing the '~' key. Finally, enter the console command ''viewmodel_recoil 0'' and the recoil animation will be disabled.
If you're looking for a detailed guide on how you can turn off viewmodel recoil in CS2 then keep reading.
What is Viewmodel Recoil
Before anything, what is viewmodel recoil in CS2? Well, out of all the new things CS2 has added, one of the least liked is the new recoil animation. Basically, while you're shooting, your weapon will jump up very drastically to go with the kickback of the gunfire.
However, as you can imagine, this can be very distracting, especially in the middle of a gunfight. It is for this reason that many players decide to disable it entirely and focus on the enemies instead of their weapons.
There are several reasons so many players are turning off viewmodel recoil in CS2 including:
Loss of Focus
In the fast-paced world of CS2, players need to maintain intense focus on their surroundings, anticipate enemy movements, and aim precisely. Viewmodel recoil can disrupt this concentration by drawing the player's attention away from their target. The abrupt upward movement of the weapon can divert the player's gaze, making it challenging to track and eliminate opponents effectively.
Reduced Visibility
CS2 players often rely on peripheral vision to detect subtle enemy movements and threats. Viewmodel recoil, especially when exaggerated, can obstruct this peripheral vision by obscuring the player's field of view with the weapon's movement. This can lead to missed enemy actions and potentially fatal mistakes.
Difficulty in Aiming
Precise aiming is a cornerstone of success in CS2. When the viewmodel recoils dramatically, it can become challenging to maintain a steady aim. Players must quickly readjust their crosshair to align with their target, which can be frustrating and disruptive to gameplay.
Visual Discomfort
The sharp and rapid movements associated with viewmodel recoil can be visually discomforting. Players may find it disorienting or even nauseating, particularly during extended gaming sessions. This discomfort further contributes to the distraction and dissatisfaction with this feature.
Impaired Tracking
Tracking moving targets is a fundamental skill in CS2. Viewmodel recoil makes tracking opponents, especially those strafing or performing evasive maneuvers, more challenging. This can lead to missed shots and lost firefights.

How to Disable Viewmodel Recoil in CS2
Now, turning off viewmodel recoil in CS2 is honestly a two step thing. The first thing you have to do is enable the developer console in CS2. This can be done by following the steps given below:
First, you want to launch CS2 and proceed to the main menu of the game
Then, you want to click on the gear icon at the top right of the screen to open the settings menu
Here, navigate to the 'keyboard/mouse' tab of the setting section
Look for the action you want to bind a different key for and click on it
Now, simply enter the key you want to use for that action
Finally, click on the apply settings option
With the developer console enabled, you want to press the '~' key on your keyboard to bring the console up.
Now, the console command related to viewmodel recoil is ''viewmodel_recoil'' and is followed by a space and then a number. If you add 1 (viewmodel_recoil 1) then the animation will be enabled and the weapon will have a noticeable kickback to go with the recoil.
However, if you add 0 (viewmodel_recoil 0) the animation will be disabled and viewmodel recoil will be turned off. Therefore, if you want to disable viewmodel recoil in CS2 then you have to enter the ''viewmodel_recoil 0'' command in the developer console.
