How to get to Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet

How to get to Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet

Where Winds Meet is the newest and hottest gacha game in the market, giving players the chance to fill the shoes of their own custom character in a world inspired by ancient mythological China. There are multiple cities here, including one named Kaifeng.

Kaifeng isn’t automatically unlocked in Where Winds Meet. Instead, players must first progress through the main story if they want to unlock this city. Even when the mission is unlocked, players can’t reach the city on foot the first time, so they must use a boat to get there.

If you’ve been loving Where Winds Meet [1] and want to learn how you can get to Kaifeng, keep reading because we’re going through just that.

Requirements to unlock Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet

Begin the Journey: New Arrival in Kaifeng

Reaching Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet happens naturally as you progress through the main story, but there are a few steps you must follow before the game lets you travel there. The city is locked early on, and you can’t simply ride into it from Quinghe. By completing the right quests and meeting the level requirements, you’ll unlock a smooth, guided route into the capital.

Kaifeng becomes available only after completing the last parts of Chapter 1. The game uses a mix of story progress and character level checks to make sure you’re prepared for what’s ahead.

You must complete the entire Chapter 1 storyline, including the quest “For Whom Does He Return”. This quest appears near the chapter’s end and must be cleared before you move on. If you still have unfinished quests from areas like Still Shore or Blissful Retreat, Kaifeng will not unlock.

Along with story progress, you need to reach around level 32. If you’re short on experience, consider finishing side quests, exploring new areas, and completing oddities. Once you meet both conditions, the Chapter 2 starting quest will appear.

Chapter 2, called “Universal Furnace”, begins with the main Kaifeng access quest. Depending on your region, this quest will be titled either “New Arrival in Kaifeng” or “New Guest in Kaifeng”. Starting this quest officially opens your path toward the city.

How to travel to Kaifeng for the first time in Where Winds Meet

Kaifeng cannot be reached on foot the first time. The game requires you to travel by boat as part of the story.

Open your quest journal with J and switch to the Main Story tab. Track the Kaifeng quest so the markers appear on your screen. You’ll be directed to a dock near Blissful Retreat and Harvestfall Village in Qinghe. Speak with the NPC at this exact dock to begin the trip.

After talking to the NPC, you’ll get the option to sail to Kaifeng. Choosing this option starts a short cutscene or loading screen that takes you straight to the city. This is the only way to unlock Kaifeng for exploration, since walking to the map border will not work

How to unlock more areas of Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet

Although the central city becomes available right away, the rest of the Kaifeng region unlocks slowly as you progress through Chapter 2. The game reveals more areas over time, thus allowing you to explore them at a steady, manageable pace.

The southern areas of Kaifeng unlock first. These zones provide additional quests, gathering spots, and access to new shops and training locations. As you progress deeper into Chapter 2, you’ll receive more quests directing you through these southern districts, letting you explore freely while still being guided by the story.

The northern province unlocks later in the game, usually between levels 45 and 50. This area contains stronger enemies, higher-level quests, and more advanced economic and combat activities. Because of the higher difficulty, the game prevents players from entering too early to avoid frustration. Once your level and story progress meet the required threshold, quests in Chapter 2 and early Chapter 3 will lead you naturally into the northern parts of Kaifeng.
