How to tame animals in Hytale

How to tame animals in Hytale

A large part of playing Hytale revolves around animals. The same case was true for Minecraft, since these animals could be used to travel more quickly or just increase the ways you can find resources to use.

Some players may wonder if they’re able to breed animals in Hytale. If they aren’t, then players may wonder how to tame these animals, and we’re here to tell you how to do just that to ensure you can know how to lure, capture, and tame animals in Hytale.

How can you capture animals in Hytale?

Players have two methods to capture animals in Hytale. The first method is manual, where players must build a large, fenced enclosure with an opening to allow a wild animal to walk inside, after which they must close the gap. It’s a tricky method because animals can run away when they see a player.

A more reliable method is to craft a Capture Crate at a Farmer’s Workbench. Players can unlock this recipe by upgrading a Farmer’s Workbench to level 20 using 50 Essence of Life, 5 Wheat, 5 Lettuce, and 5 Softwood Trunks. Crafting the table needs four pieces of wood and 50 Essence of Life.

After players have crafted it, they need to hold the crate and left-click on a small animal to capture it. This tool is suitable for smaller animals, including calves, lambs, foals, rabbits, baby pigs, mice, frogs, meerkats, and armadillos. Players must transport the animal to a pre-built enclosure after capturing it to ensure it doesn’t run away. To release the animal, equip the capture crate and left-click again.

How do you lure animals in Hytale?

There are two items that people can use to lure animals in Hytale. Players can use the Feed bag or specific handheld foods. It’s possible to craft the Feed Bag at a Farmer’s Workbench using 10 Wheat, 5 of any vegetable, 5 of any fruit, and 10 Essence of Life.

Smaller prey animals like chicks, piglets, and rabbits may no longer run from players when they’re holding a Feed bag, and heart icons can appear over their heads. However, the luring mechanic might be incomplete, and the Feed Bag’s main function is related to taming within an enclosure, not general luring. Some animals can be lured by holding specific foods. For example, rabbits and horses are attracted to carrots and will follow the player if they’re holding on.

How do you tame animals in Hytale?

Taming animals in Hytale is a slow process that needs patience and the correct setup. First, players must capture an animal and place it inside an enclosure. Newly released animals are wild and will panic if a player is nearby.

To start taming, players must ensure a Feed Bag is placed inside the enclosure as a food source. After about an in-game day of the animal sharing the space with the Feed Bag, heart icons will start appearing above the animal, indicating it’s tamed. This taming doesn’t mean the animal will follow the player or obey commands, but just that it won’t be afraid of them and will ignore their presence instead of running away. If a player re-captures a semi-tamed animal using a Capture Crate, then it will revert to its original wild state.

Can you breed animals in Hytale?

No, it’s not possible to breed animals in Hytale’s current state. The available systems focus on capturing and taming. Since animals can’t reproduce, the only way to gather animal resources such as hides, leather, and meat is to hunt wild animals. Players expect that the developers will add proper breeding mechanics in a future update.

FAQs

Can you truly tame animals in Hytale right now?

No. Hytale does not currently have a full taming system that lets animals become permanent pets or mounts. You can lure and capture animals, but true taming isn’t implemented yet and is expected in a future update.

How do you interact with animals in the current build?

You can lure animals using a Feed Bag or specific foods like carrots, and you can capture small animals using a Capture Crate. Captured animals can be moved into enclosures, but they do not gain obedience or follow commands.

Can animals breed in Hytale right now?

No. Breeding is not available in the current Early Access version of Hytale. Even if animals show heart particles when fed, this does not trigger breeding and is cosmetic for now.
