How Overwatch 2 is celebrating Pride Month in 2025

Pride Month is a huge thing, especially for games that value inclusion like Overwatch 2 ^[1]. Thanks to this, players are usually rewarded with various goodies when Pride Month rolls around, whether through in-game assets and cosmetics or something more.

This year, Blizzard seems to be going above and beyond, because the month-long celebration running from May 30 to June 30 will include things like in-game rewards, a character-driven story dedicated to Soldier 76, and more.

Overwatch 2’s Pride-themed cosmetics

Soldier 76 takes center stage in this year’s Pride Month in Overwatch 2. The game’s oldest LGBTQ+ playable hero received a dedicated short story that players can watch. The story is called “Futures Past” and also shows the support hero Illari. The story is set in the town of Runasepi, and Soldier 76 tackles his past trauma by revisiting his younger life and incidents related to his former partner, Vincent.

This isn’t all, as those who like to main Soldier 76 will also get the free new "Resilient" Rare skin just for logging in during the event window. The final free goodie for players who log in during the event is the Rainbow Smoke Bomb emote. Finally, the Midtown map also returns with Pride-themed visuals, including colorful confetti, rainbow crosswalks, and festive parade decor.

How else is Overwatch 2 celebrating Pride Month?

The celebrations aren’t just limited to the actual game, as Blizzard is also encouraging players to celebrate the inclusive month in the real world. This is through coloring pages that showcase some of the game’s LGBTQ+ characters, as well as parades and other offline events for players to look forward to.

Season 17’s release will also fall in this time period, and it’ll bring things like a new Mythic skin for D.Va and Reaper, and more. The game’s successful Stadium mode will get a handful of updates, and the Flashpoint mode will get a new map for players to enjoy.
