What is the Overwatch 2 Team Status Indicator, and where does it fit in the HUD? Blizzard's August 11, 2026 retail notes identify it as a counter above the Kill Feed that shows how many teammates and enemies are alive, with a respawn progress bar for allies. That matters because it gives you a live headcount, but not the rest of the fight context.
If you want the feature on or off, the documented control is Gameplay â HUD â Show Team Status Indicator; if you want only the ally return display adjusted, that is a separate walkback setting. The first section below explains what the indicator shows right now, then the setup path and related display options follow.
What the Team Status Indicator shows right now
That is the current first-party definition. The counter gives you the live numbers for each team, making a lost player obvious even if the elimination itself vanished into the visual mess. Read the two totals before committing to a re-engage. If your side is down players, the indicator has already given you the one fact it is built to provide.
How to turn off Show Team Status Indicator
Open the Overwatch 2 settings menu.
Select Gameplay.
Enter HUD.
Disable Show Team Status Indicator.
The exact documented path is Gameplay â HUD â Show Team Status Indicator. Flip it off, and the counter goes away. Do not change Walkback Calculation Progress Bar when your goal is to hide the whole feature; that separate setting controls how ally return progress is calculated.
If the counter remains visible after you disable it, double-check the toggle before testing the display again. Blizzard documents the off switch and identifies Respawn Time as the default for the separate experimental Walkback Calculation Progress Bar.
Respawn Time and Dynamic do different jobs
Respawn Time is the documented default for the experimental Walkback Calculation Progress Bar. That is all it proves. It does not prove the main Team Status Indicator toggle starts on or off.
Dynamic is different. It includes an estimate of how long allies will take to get back to the fight. Estimate matters here. Treat the bar as a quick return-time read, not a frame-perfect promise that your teammate will cross a specific corner at a specific second.
If you only want the normal respawn calculation, leave Walkback Calculation Progress Bar on Respawn Time. If you want the bar to account for the trip back toward the fight, select Dynamic. That is the setting worth testing first because it adds the only documented layer beyond the standard respawn display.
The counter gives headcount, not full fight context
Picture the supported read: your side has four alive, the enemy has five, and one ally's return bar is moving. You know the current headcount and can see return progress. With Dynamic selected, that progress includes an estimated walkback. You still do not know whether teammates have cooldowns, where the enemy is holding, or whether someone intends to touch the objective.
Blizzard describes health and status HUD updates separately from the Team Status Indicator. The Season 4 launch post also separates the alive counter from healing effects, health-bar feedback, the Protect stat, and Activity Feed damage contribution. Different jobs. Different signals. An alive count is not a health report, and a return estimate is not a positioning call.
Use the Team Status Indicator to answer one clean question: how many players are currently alive? Use the progress behavior for the narrower follow-up: how close is an eliminated ally to returning? Do not turn two numbers into a fake green light for a push. Headcount is information. It is not the whole fight.
Blizzard has not specified every availability detail
Platform coverage, eligible modes, and mode-specific restrictions are not clear from the available description. The documented default is Respawn Time under the experimental Walkback Calculation Progress Bar setting; that default does not establish whether the main Show Team Status Indicator option starts enabled or disabled.
That gap should not be filled with guesses about console support, Competitive availability, HUD clutter, contrast, or readability. Those may be reasonable things to check, but Blizzard's current description does not establish a platform matrix or prove a presentation problem with this specific counter. Keep the claim narrow. Blizzard has not said more than that.
For a practical check, use the Show Team Status Indicator control under Gameplay â HUD, then test the display in the mode you play to see whether the counter matches your selection. Trust the setting you can see. The sharp takeaway is even simpler: count the living players, then make the call - the counter cannot make it for you.
