Marvel Rivals will fix the massive RAM consumption in Season 2

Marvel Rivals may be one of the hottest games in recent times, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t without its faults. The game has a handful of technical issues, though the most jarring of them is the massive RAM consumption the game seems to trouble gamers with, which can lead to those with lower-end PCs struggling to play the game as intended.
Fortunately, it seems that will be changing soon. According to the official Marvel Rivals lead technical designer, the game will no longer consume nearly as much RAM as it did in Seasons 0 and 1, which means it’ll be much more accessible for players while also running more smoothly. We thought we’d go through everything this entails, including how this fix could potentially be implemented and what this will mean for the future of Marvel Rivals.
Without further ado, here’s what to know about the reduction in RAM consumption for Marvel Rivals in Season 2.
NetEase is working on fixing Marvel Rivals’ RAM problem
Speaking to PC Gamer at GDC 2025 [1], lead technical designer Weikang Ruan confirmed that memory optimization is a priority. "On PC, we realize that [optimization] is a big problem, especially for the memory consumption," he said. To help with this, NetEase is planning to introduce an experimental toggle in the game’s launcher that will significantly reduce RAM usage. This option may arrive as early as Season 2, expected in mid-April.
While Marvel Rivals runs on Unreal Engine 5, a notoriously demanding engine, its system requirements are fairly standard for a modern shooter. However, memory usage has been a major concern. Some players have reported severe performance drops unless they upgrade from 16 GB of RAM to 32 GB. This suggests that the current 16GB RAM recommendation may not be entirely accurate.

What will the Marvel Rivals RAM fix change?
One of Marvel Rivals’ standout features is its dynamic destruction, where battles reshape the environment in real time. This level of physics-based interactivity is computationally demanding and could be one of the first things to take a hit when RAM usage is reduced. Other potential trade-offs include lower texture quality, reduced AI complexity, or fewer background processes running simultaneously.
Since Unreal Engine 5 is still relatively new, developers across the industry are learning how to optimize it effectively. Marvel Rivals isn't the only game experiencing performance challenges, as UE5 is known for stuttering and high memory consumption. NetEase’s decision to fully test the fix before release suggests they are being cautious to avoid introducing new issues.
While Ruan didn’t confirm exactly how the optimization will work, he reassured players that the team is committed to making Marvel Rivals more accessible across a wider range of PC builds. The goal is to allow lower-end and mid-range systems to run the game smoothly without forcing players to upgrade their hardware.
