Every Pokémon player has at least one favorite Pokémon, whether it’s Zapdos or Mewtwo. However, it can’t be denied that Zygarde is easily one of the most impressive and unique legendaries, considering it has multiple forms and typically is broken down into cells.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A also lets players get Zygarde, though the steps required to follow to get it aren’t exactly straightforward. Players have to go to Hotel Z in the postgame to start a high-level battle against L. After that, travel to the bottom of Prism Tower to find Zygarde waiting to be captured.
Here’s how to get Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and where to find L in the post-game.
Where to find L in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
To begin the quest for Zygarde, you must complete the Pokémon Legends' main storyline: Z-A. You must capture Xerneas and Yveltal, available through the Infinite Z-A Royale mode when the game enters its post-game phase. To begin the next stage of the quest, return to Hotel Z in Lumiose City after capturing these two Legendary Pokémon.
At Hotel Z, speaking to L will start a mandatory high-level battle. L uses a strong team, ending with a level-80 Mega Gyardos. Defeating him unlocks a new mission titled “To Keep the World in Balance”. Once he’s defeated, Zygarde appears briefly in its 10% form before fleeing to Prism Tower.

Where to find Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
After the cutscene, travel to Wild Zone 20, at the bottom of Prism Tower. You’ll find Zygarde waiting there. Interact with the glowing core to start a multi-phase boss battle. This is where the real challenge begins, so bring your best team and a clear strategy.
There are three stages to the fight with Zygarde, each representing one of its forms. At level 84, Zygarde first manifests in its 10% form. This form uses moves like Thousand Arrows, and you must wear it down without being careless. Zygarde will change into the 50% form after its HP has decreased enough. Rock Slide, Crunch, and Dragon Pulse are among the moves used by the 50% form, which also has a comparable moveset and threat level.
In both phases, avoid Zygarde’s powered-up attacks and continue dealing damage. Finally, after these two forms are defeated, Zygarde will enter its Complete Form at 100%, a large robotic form with powerful moves. In this phase, Zygarde’s attacks can hit you directly. Dodge its beam and area attacks carefully, stay away from its core blasts, and move to the edges when it uses Core Enforcer and dodge Land’s Wrath. If your team gets knocked out during this phase, you must repeat the entire multi-form battle.
How to beat Zygarde in Prism Tower in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Zygarde is a Dragon/Ground-type Pokémon [1]. It is naturally resistant to Fire, Poison, and Electric moves, but weak to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy attacks. Ice-type moves are especially effective against it, and using them will make the fight go quicker. Bringing a Dragon or Fairy move is also helpful. Pick Pokémon that strike hard against Zygarde’s weak points and can survive its Ground attacks. Flying-types are ideal, since they avoid Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves entirely.
How to catch Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Once you have completely beaten Zygarde in its Complete Form, the battle will end with the chance to catch it. Unlike many boss encounters, this catch is guaranteed. You can capture Zygarde with any Poké Ball rather than a Master Ball because it can’t escape or break free. Select any Poké Ball you like and capture it to add Zygarde to your team and Pokédex.
After beating the main story and capturing Xerneas/Yveltal, go to Hotel Z and defeat L. Then, find Zygarde at the bottom of Prism Tower and defeat it in a multi-stage battle.
You can find L at Hotel Z in Lumiose City after you complete the main storyline and capture Xerneas and Yveltal in the post-game Infinite Z-A Royale mode.
