League of Legends: New Honor System and Updated Mastery Icons

Riot Games has just unveiled significant updates to League of Legends, focusing on two key areas: the Honor System and Champion Mastery Icons. These changes are designed to enhance player recognition and improve the visual and functional aspects of the game. 

The latest development brings a revamped Champion Mastery icon set and a reimagined Honor System. Players can now honor multiple teammates and even opponents, while the new mastery icons retain their original essence but with a fresh, modern twist. These updates are nearing finalization and are expected to be live in September.

The New Honor System

Honoring Multiple Players

Riot’s update to the Honor System allows players to honor more than one teammate per game, a significant shift from the previous restriction of a single honor. This change acknowledges the contributions of multiple players, whether they excel in gameplay, leadership, or positive in-game behavior. 

Additionally, the new system enables players to extend this recognition to opponents, promoting sportsmanship even across teams.

Simplified Honor Options

The previous Honor System offered three distinct honor types: “Stay Cool”, “Great Shotcalling”, and “GG”. Riot has simplified this by introducing a single, universal honor button. This streamlining ensures that honors are given based on overall positive behavior rather than specific actions, making the process more straightforward and inclusive.

Addressing Negative Behavior

In conjunction with these changes, Riot is enhancing Vanguard, their anti-cheat and behavior detection system, to more effectively identify and penalize negative behaviors such as trolling, intentional feeding, and AFK activity. With a target of reaching 95% detection accuracy, these improvements will help create a more positive gaming environment. 

Riot is also introducing rewards for players impacted by toxic behavior, such as ARAM rerolls, autofill protection, LP consolation, and XP boosts, offering some compensation for disrupted games.
