The esports scene is bigger than ever before, with insanely large tournaments like Valorant Champions and League of Legends Worlds attracting countless eyes worldwide. Marvel Rivals has a similar competitive scene with Marvel Rivals Ignite, but while it seems to still be in the developing stages, one known team has decided to take a step back from competitive play.
Sentinels, one of the most well-known teams in competitive gaming, primarily thanks to its old Valorant roster, announced that it would be pausing all of its Marvel Rivals-related activities. This announcement comes less than a year after the team was officially established, raising the question of whether Marvel Rivals has a sustainable competitive scene.
Here’s what to know about Sentinels exiting the competitive Marvel Rivals scene, including why it happened.

Sentinels won’t compete in competitive Marvel Rivals anymore
According to the official Sentinels X account [1], the team will be pausing operations on Marvel Rivals effective immediately, despite founding the professional Marvel Rivals team just some months ago. This decision was made as preparations for the end-of-season Marvel Rivals Ignite tournament were slated to start, with the tournament about to start just next month. Of course, Sentinels withdrew from that, too.
This decision technically isn’t final, as the announcement stated that Sentinels would revisit the decision if NetEase were to introduce team incentives. To be more specific, Sentinels wishes for Marvel Rivals to introduce purchasable team bundles in the game as a way for players to support their favorite teams and keep them more sustainable. Valorant follows a similar path, and fans of that game must have seen their favorite players marketing their team’s bundles multiple times.
The post concludes by stating that all of the members of the team were free to pursue other opportunities in the Marvel Rivals space, ensuring that they could sign with another organization if they wanted.
NetEase hasn’t made any statements about introducing team bundles or any similar incentives to Marvel Rivals. With the game’s competitive scene just starting, fans wonder if this means that Sentinels is the first of many to leave the game’s sphere because of a lack of support from the Chinese developer, especially considering interest in Marvel Rivals isn’t close to what it used to be around launch.
