New games are constantly being released but going under the radar for either not having a big enough fanbase interested in the game or copying too much from already established games without being different. However, a brand new game that was announced to be releasing is Marvel Rivals, and fans are wondering if it'll be the game to finally kill Overwatch 2.
Today, we're here to go through everything you need to know about Marvel Rivals and how it compares to our favorite free-to-play hero shooter, Overwatch 2. In addition to introdocuing the Marvel game, we'll also be pitting it against Overwatch 2 to see if the rumors of it killing Overwatch 2 have any merit.
So, without further ado, here's what Marvel Rivals is and whether it'll kill Overwatch 2. If you're interested in climbing the Overwatch 2 ranks then we recommend you hire a professional-level booster from Eloking to show you how it's done. What is Marvel Rivals?
Marvel Rivals is an upcoming 6v6 hero shooter developed by NetEase Games. The title will be free to play at launch and will be available on Steam and Epic Games. Unlike Overwatch, which has original characters for the game, Marvel Rivals will feature characters from the Marvel Universe, such as Spider-Man, Loki, and Iron Man. Another thing that separates Marvel Rivals from Overwatch is that it's a third-person shooter instead of a first-person shooter.
The game was announced on March 27, 2024, and is currently under development. While there's no release date for the title, there will be an alpha test in May 2024, where players will be able to try out the game for themselves.
The game features maps across the Marvel Universe, such as Asgard, and it also introduces brand new features like team power-ups where two characters can synergize their abilities to do something new. For example, Rocket Racoon can climb on top of Groot. The maps in the game will have destructible environments similar to the Battlefield games, but the full extent of its destructive capabilities hasn't been shown yet.

Will Marvel Rivals be able to kill Overwatch 2?
We don't think Marvel Rivals will be able to kill Overwatch due to numerous reasons, such as:
Pre-established pro scene
Even though Overwatch League ended in late 2023 after six seasons, there's still a competitive scene present for the game, which Marvel Rivals can't say the same for. It takes years for a game's professional stance to grow, so even if Marvel Rivals has a great competitive mode, it'll take some time to reach Overwatch 2's level even if Blizzard doesn't take steps to compete against NetEase's title.
Been out for much longer
Overwatch launched in 2016 so many players, casual or competitive, have more than 7 years' worth of achievements, experience, and progress. With this much time already invested in a game, it would be hard for fans to shift to another game and start from scratch.
Oversaturated market
The market for free-to-play live service games is very oversaturated, as you've got games like Overwatch 2, Fortnite, The Finals, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and more, so it'll be difficult for NetEase's game to stand out against these other titles. In addition, these other games are published by well-known companies like Epic Games and Activision-Blizzard, so they've already got established player bases and fanbases.
Sketchy Practices
NetEase has garnered controversy over how one of their games, Naraka Bladepoint, worked in Windows 11. For those who don't know, Naraka Bladepoint required players with Windows 11 to turn off parts of their antiviruses so that the game could run, and the game never explained it. Because of this, players who already know about the company and its practices would be skeptical to try out Marvel Rivals.
Exclusivity
Marvel Rivals will only be available on PC, so even if they're somehow able to kill off Overwatch 2's PC player base, players will still be able to play with Console users as the game has cross-play.
