All of Wuyang’s abilities in Overwatch 2

All of Wuyang’s abilities in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 may have had a rocky launch, but the game has withstood the tests of time and has been going strong for almost half a decade. Much of this is thanks to the game adopting a different approach to releasing heroes, making them free for everyone upon release.

Now, the newest hero to come to the game is slated to be Wuyang. This hero is slated to be fairly different than other new heroes, having high damage and healing potential, along with good mobility. We thought of going through all of the hero's abilities to ensure you know what to expect when he drops.

Without any further delays, here are all of Wuyang’s abilities in Overwatch 2 and how you can expect to use them.

Wuyang’s weapon in Overwatch 2

Xuanwu Staff (Primary Fire)

Wuyang’s primary weapon is the Xuanwu Staff, which launches water orbs. Each Water Orb deals direct-hit damage and splash damage on impact. Players can hold the fire button to steer an orb mid-flight and charge it. Releasing a charged orb triggers a larger area-of-effect explosion. He carries 20 orbs before needing to reload, letting him poke at range or pressure enemies behind cover. A fully-charged orb can finish off targets or displace enemies with its splash, complementing his healing by softening foes.

Restorative Stream (Secondary Fire)

Wuyang places a passive healing stream on a targeted ally, which continually heals the ally. If players hold this button, they channel extra healing onto that ally using their healing resource (similar to Zenyatta’s orb, but limited by a meter). He can keep an ally healthy from range or quickly save one under pressure, but it costs part of his resource bar.

Wuyang's Abilities in Overwatch 2

Guardian Wave (E)

He sends a forward water wave that increases healing received by nearby allies and knocks back enemies. In practice, this means friendly targets standing near the wave take more healing for a short time, while any enemy hit is pushed away. Tactically, Guardian Wave is excellent for teamfights. It forces enemies off high ground or objectives (creative space) while amplifying the team’s healing throughput. It can interrupt pushes or break chokes, and its knockback can save allies from melee threats.

Rushing Torrent (Shift)

Wuyang surfs a stream of water to quickly move and jump higher, which grants a burst of speed and an extra leap height. He can use it to reach high ground, escape danger, or chase a fleeting foe. Importantly, activating Rushing Torrent triggers the Overflow perk, which restores ammo and healing resources. As a result, Rushing Torrent boosts mobility while also replenishing its offensive and healing output.

Ultimate - Tidal Blast (Q)

Wuyang’s ultimate is Tidal Blast, which envelops a chosen ally (or himself) in a watery barrier. After a short channel, the bubble explodes. When it detonates, nearby enemies are knocked down (like Reinhardt’s Earthshatter), and the protected ally is healed for a massive amount. Essentially, Tidal Blast turns the target into a “ticking time bomb” of heal and crowd-control that can save a teammate under fire or serve as a way to initiate battle. The bubble’s overhealth allows the ally to withstand bursts of incoming damage.

Wuyang Support Role Passive

As a support, Wuyang’s passive lets him begin health regeneration sooner than usual (3 seconds after taking damage instead of 6).

Overflow (Minor perk)

When Rushing Torrent is activated, Wuyang gains 10 ammo and 33% of his healing resource back. This encourages him to use the dash mid-fight, keeping his ammo and healing active for longer. He refreshes his resources by dashing in and out, making the ability a natural fit for aggressive play.

Balance (Minor Perk)

If Wuyang deals damage with a water orb, his Restorative Stream’s healing is increased by 40% for 2 seconds. In other words, landed damage buffs his healing outputs. This perk rewards using his orbs to harass or poke before immediately switching to heal a teammate. It encourages a playstyle of “damage then heal” that fits the hero’s theme. Many players favor balance for the high burst-healing benefit after landing orbs.

Ebb and Flow (Major Perk)

Guardian Wave will rewind to Wuyang’s location after reaching its destination. (It deals 50% reduced damage on the return.) It allows Wuyang to hit foes twice with one wave, pushing them outward and back, and improving his area control.

Falling Rain (Major Perk)

Wuyang can control three water orbs simultaneously instead of one. When fully charged, these orbs deal 60% damage each and have a 25% smaller explosion radius. Falling Rain increases his overall damage potential at the cost of power. It’s effective for pressure and clearing space, but trades burst power for higher aim precision.

FAQs

Is Wuyang a damage or support hero?

Wuyang is a support hero, but he can deal significant damage thanks to his Xuanwu Staff and perks that reward mixing damage with healing.

What makes Wuyang different from other supports?

Unlike most supports, Wuyang has strong offensive pressure while keeping his team alive. His mobility and resource refresh through Rushing Torrent give him more freedom than traditional healers.

Can Wuyang solo carry games?

While not a pure DPS hero, Wuyang’s ability to punish enemies with orbs and then swing fights with Guardian Wave or Tidal Blast makes him capable of carrying in the right hands.
