Characters with the highest ban rates in Marvel Rivals

Characters with the highest ban rates in Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals [1] has multiple characters players can play as, though not all of them are equally good. Some characters are fairly tough to counter, whether it be Storm and her devastating lighting attacks or Doctor Strange and his annoying shield. Luckily the game lets players ban characters in a banning phase, at least in certain ranks.

Players who reach Diamond rank and above can ban characters at the start of the game. Today, we thought we’d go through the Marvel Rivals characters with the highest ban rates to see if they really deserve it. Naturally, we’ll also mention why these characters are likely to get banned in games.

So, without any more delay, here are the Marvel Rivals characters with the highest ban rates. If your main tends to get banned a lot and you want to learn how to play other characters like a pro then we have you covered. Just have a professional booster from Eloking show you the ropes and boost your rank in the process.

10: Winter Soldier

A male character in a dynamic action pose with a futuristic weapon

Winter Soldier is a reliable duelist with a powerful toolkit that lets him consistently eliminate opponents. He has an adaptive playstyle, which makes him helpful in almost every situation, causing him to be a popular pick. His abilities let him reposition and retreat. Also, his bionic arm buffs his melee capabilities, making him a problem in ranged and close-quarters combat.

The main problem with Bucky is that he’s predictable, and coordinated teams can counter him. However, when an enemy team has a Winter Soldier main who knows what they’re doing, banning him is a better option than countering him. His high damage and flexibility make him a constant ban in ranked matches.

9: Magik

A mysterious fantasy warrior with glowing ice-blue elements.

Magik is one of the few duelists who can create shields while being offensive. She has a barrier that can absorb damage, making her tanky despite being a duelist. She has one of the best escape abilities in the game, letting her teleport out of danger and retreat.

Although she’s not as universally feared as Wolverine or Hulk, her high skill ceiling makes her powerful if someone knows what they’re doing. Against teams with a Magik main, banning her becomes essential to avoid dealing with her constant pressure and survivability.

8: Black Panther

Black Panther is great at isolating and eliminating priority enemies. His spears and dashes let him weaken enemies before engaging and immediately taking out squishy characters like strategists. He gets a burst of damage whenever he’s in low health, so he’s deadly in near-death situations.

His ability to chain multiple attacks makes him a difficult opponent to play against, but a coordinated team can counter his risky playstyle. However, it’s difficult to kill him in solo queue matches due to a lack of communication, so players ban him to prevent him from making an impact.

7: Dr. Strange

A magical character performing an energy spell

Dr. Strange is one of the most balanced Vanguards in Marvel Rivals, so he’s an essential pick in most matches. His defining trait is his ability to create portals, allowing enemies and teammates to pass from one part of the map to another.  He also has a shield that can protect his entire team and an ultimate that can immobilize any opponent around him.

Dr. Strange fits in every team composition, so banning him can force teams to pick a vanguard hard to play against. His high pick rate in ranked makes him a frequent ban.

6: Namor

A dynamic warrior in action with a spear

Namor is a duelist who can punish aggressive heroes like Venom, Spider-Man, and Black Panther. Namor’s squids that lock onto enemies that Namor is targeting and act like turrets constantly apply pressure to opponents, making it difficult for them to execute their hit-and-run tactics.

He’s a problem in higher ranks where players can aim better due to his damage. Players who love using diving characters or have a team composition that relies on fast and mobile heroes ban Namor so they have an easier time in the match.

5: Cloak and Dagger

Marvel Rivals Strategist Cloak and Dagger characters

Cloak and Dagger are the most-picked heroes in Marvel Rivals, with a 55% pick rate. Their high popularity makes them a victim of constant bands. They’re one of the easiest characters in the game. Cloak can consistently heal allies, while Dagger can debuff opponents and protect teammates from incoming damage.

Dagger has auto-aiming daggers that can heal multiple teammates. Numerous players one-trick Cloak and Dagger, so banning them forces them to play characters they’re not good at, forcing the team into a disadvantage.

4: Luna Snow

A dynamic character in action with ice effects

Luna Snow’s ultimate is one of the most powerful skills in Marvel Rivals because it can change the outcome of a fight. It creates a large zone that heals or buffs teammates depending on the mode, making it near impossible for opponents to kill allies if it’s in the former mode.

The rest of her toolkit is good at protecting her teammates, and players consider her the best strategist in Marvel Rivals. She can freeze opponents and save herself from anyone who flanks her. Many players believe her ultimate lasts too long and that she deals too much damage, leading to gamers banning her from competitive matches.

3: Storm

A futuristic superhero character with silver hair and a powerful stance.

Storm has received numerous buffs in Season 1, transforming her into a powerful duelist. She has increased mobility, a team-wide damage boost, and an ultimate ability that transforms her into a tornado that damages multiple opponents in an area.

She synergizes well with Thor because they can combine their abilities to deal massive AoE damage. She’s usually banned in competitive games because she’s difficult to counter and provides her team with utility and damage.

2: Hulk

An animated character resembling a muscular green hero with glowing eyes

Hulk is primarily banned to prevent teams from utilizing his team-up abilities, which enhance Iron Man and Dr. Strange. When paired with Hulk, Iron Man’s gamma-powered buff gives him an insane damage boost, allowing him to eliminate opponents.

Banning Hulks can weaken multiple heroes simultaneously, making it essential to ban him at higher levels. Also, Hulk’s stuns, mobility, and damage make him a powerful front-line hero, justifying his high ban rate.

1: Wolverine

Wolverine character art with claws drawn

Wolverine has the highest ban rate in Marvel Rivals because he can shred through tanky characters. He deals damage based on percentage, so he doesn’t struggle against high-health targets, making him a threat to Vanguards.

His Feral Leap ability lets him grab and isolate a target, preventing them from helping their team. This ability makes him one of the most impactful characters in the game because he can target and kill off essential targets. His DPS and capacity to bypass sustain mechanics force players to ban him in competitive matches.
