What is Premier mode in Counter-Strike 2?

CS2 Premier mode, also called just Premier by players, is a new competitive 5v5 game mode in Counter-Strike 2. Unlike competitive mode, where people queue for select maps, Premier has a pick-and-ban phase so players can play on any map.

Premier replaces Competitive as the primary matchmaking option in Counter-Strike 2, introducing a new approach to traditional game modes. In Premier mode, two teams of five players compete against each other, where the first team to win 13 rounds is the victor. The match has two halves, each 12 rounds, and players switch sides afterward.

Premier has a pick-and-ban phase. At the start of the match, each team takes turns selecting and banning maps until only one remains. Players can check the win rates of the opposing team and theirs to strategically choose which ones to get rid of, adding another layer of strategic play.

How does Premier mode’s ranking system work in Counter-Strike 2?

Premier mode’s ranking system works differently than in CS:GO. Instead of ranks that range from Silver to Global Elite, which separate players into different skill groups, Premier has a visible CS Rating for each player.

People get their rating after winning ten matches and then can climb the leaderboard if they win matches. After every 5,000 points, the color of their CS rating will change. These colors represent how high up a person is on the leaderboard. Grey is the lowest tier in Premier, similar to Silver in Competitive mode. Grey is followed by light blue, blue, purple, pink, and red. In this case, red is the equivalent of Global Elite.

Players believe Premier’s ranking is better than Competitive, specifically for those who want to make it to the esports scene, because the former more accurately measures skill since it considers a single person’s performance.

FAQs

Do players need Prime in order to play Premier mode?

Yes, players need Prime status to play Premier in Counter-Strike 2. To get their skill group rank, players must win 10 Premier matches.

People can get Prime status by a one-time payment of $14.99 on Steam. Alongside unlocking Prime, it rewards players with weekly experience and other in-game rewards.

Alongside needing Prime, players must be level 10 to access Premier. Gamers can get to level 10 by playing various modes like Casual and Arms Race as long as it’s on official matchmaking servers.

Is Premier mode more important than Competitive mode in Counter-Strike 2?

Yes, players have preferred Premier over Competitive ever since the launch of Counter-Strike 2 because it provides a better ranking experience. Since the mode forces players to have Prime status, there’s less likelihood of encountering cheaters.
