Games collaborating with known IPs aren’t anything new. However, that doesn’t mean gamers don’t get surprised by some surprise announcements that they don’t expect. A case in point is the Overwatch 2 and Transformers collaboration that Blizzard Entertainment announced is coming soon.
Today, we’re about to go through everything you need to know about the upcoming Overwatch 2 and Transformers collaboration. This includes what you can expect from it and when the event will start. We’ll also go through some previous popular collaborations so you can compare them to the upcoming collaboration.

When is the Overwatch 2 and Transformers collaboration starting?
The news that Overwatch 2 and Transformers are collaborating was broken through the roadmap shared by Blizzard Games. The roadmap shows what’s coming in Season 1, which starts on June 20, 2024. Even though it isn’t outright named, the roadmap reveals that the game will collaborate with an IP on July 9 at 11:00 am PT, and the icon for that event is the iconic Autobot logo.
As for when the event is ending, the end date isn’t shared, but if the Transformers event follows a similar pattern to previous collaborations, then it will probably stop about 2 or 3 weeks after the starting date, so somewhere in late July.
What will come to the Overwatch 2 and Transformers collaboration?
Although Blizzard hasn’t shown what is coming to the Overwatch 2 and Transformers collaboration, it’s easy to assume what Blizzard might add to the title based on previous events. The new event will probably introduce brand-new skins, similar to the Cowboy Bebop and Porsche collabs. As for what characters might get skins, it will probably be robotic characters or those with mechs, like Orisa, Bastion, D.va, and Zenyatta, since these characters fit perfectly with the Transformers IP.
Some maps may be redesigned to fit the Transformers IP by adding numerous mentions of several characters and events that have happened in its lore. Maps set in America, such as Route 66 or Hollywood, have the highest likelihood of changes since that’s where most of Transformers lore takes place.
There’s a good chance the collaboration will introduce a new limited-time game mode to the title. As with other limited game modes, players can unlock various cosmetics like skins, player cards, icons, sprays, and more by completing challenges. As for what might be different in the new game mode, there might be a chance that characters that can transform, like D.va, will fight against other D.vas while receiving several special attacks to separate it from the standard game modes.
