What is changed in the new CS2 update?
The new CS2 update includes various optimizations, bug fixes, UI changes, and the addition of numerous maps.
Universal video setting changes
Valve has included multiple optimizations to the game so that the title runs smoother on people’s PCs. This update focuses more on users who own Nvidia graphics cards.
Starting with universal changes affecting everyone, Valve has added a settings recommendation pop-up for users with incorrect settings for their display. If someone’s display’s refresh rate is below its maximum at the startup, they will get a prompt to increase it, as using the display’s highest refresh rate is recommended for most cases. Additionally, the Refresh Rate setting shows the player’s display’s current fresh rate in Windowed and Fullscreen Windowed mode now.
Besides that, the Main Menu Background Scenery and Item Inspect Background Scenery options are removed from the Video Settings Page and moved to the Main Menu and Item Inspect screens. The Laptop Power Savings setting has been removed from the game since it has not been configurable since Counter-Strike 2's release. In the Frame Pacing section of the settings, there are now Maximum FPS In Game and Maximum FPS In Menu sliders.
Nvidia video setting changes
Moving onto the Nvidia-specific changes. The settings recommendations will pop up if the user’s display has Nvidia G-Sync support but is not enabled. If Nvidia G-Sync is enabled but V-Sync and/or Nvidia Reflex are disabled, the pop-up will still show up to recommend players to enable the latter two options.
In the settings menu, there is now an Nvidia G-Sync row in the Frame Pacing section, which tells players if they have G-Sync active with their current settings. It’s worth noting that this setting might be inaccessible if the player is running the game using the Vulkan renderer or is not using an Nvidia GPU.
Bug fixes
C4 won't get stuck in unreachable spots in maps like Nuke, Ancient, Vertigo, and Anubis anymore.
UI changes
A new MVP panel has been introduced to the game, which shows up in every game mode. The MVP panel has animations that reflect why the person got that award. Besides that, MVP conditions have been altered a bit, and so have the MVP rules.
New maps added to CS2
Five community maps have been added to the game.
Thera and Mills have been introduced to Counter-Strike 2 and will only be available to play in Premiere, Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch game modes.
The community maps Memento and Assembly have been added to the Wingman mode and will only be accessible in that game mode.
The classic community map, Pool Day, has been added to the Arms Race game mode.
Here are some information regarding the maps:
Thera: It takes place on a volcanic island. It was created by the map creators FMPone and MF_Kitten, the former of which was also responsible for the cache.
Mills: Taking place in a small village, this map was made by the creator catfood.
Memento: Memento is an interesting map since it has four creators. MadsenFK, ynel, TwinN, and g3om. This map takes place at an Italian wedding near the lake.
Assembly: Like Memento, Assembly was also made by the four creators, Almaas, Quoting, Thomas, and Huvaligen, and it takes place in a hangar.
Pool Day: Finally, the classic map Pool Day. As the name suggests, it takes place in a pool. While the original version of the map was made by Squall, the remade version was created by Leplubodespalin.
