Explaining Fragpunk's ranked system

Explaining Fragpunk's ranked system

Fragpunk [1] is the latest in the ever-expanding line of free-to-play FPS games. From Valorant to Overwatch 2, it’s as if gamers have no shortage of excellent hero shooters to play, though the primary issue is that the games may eventually start to blend together. Fortunately, Fragpunk has a lot going for it that sets it apart from the competition.

While the game’s shard card system is its most unique factor, today we want to take a closer look at the game’s ranking system. To be more specific, we want to highlight how you can unlock ranked mode in the game and all of the ranks. We also want to take a closer look at things like the shard card system and the party queue restrictions.

So, without any further delays, here’s everything to know about the Fragpunk ranked system.

How to unlock ranked mode in Fragpunk

To access the Ranked mode in FragPunk, you must reach level 30. This is achieved by acquiring experience points (XP) from various game modes. Both Account Points (AP) and XP must be accumulated in order to level up successfully.

AP is earned by playing modes such as Shard Clash, Outbreak, and Rocketers. Both winning and losing teams receive AP, though performance can add to the gain, especially from kills and objectives.

While XP monitors overall player advancement, AP is responsible for unlocking features and content. Players can buy a $10 per-month membership that increases XP gain by 50% if they want to speed their progression. To level up quickly, it is necessary to concentrate on collecting AP as well as XP.

All Fragpunk ranks

FragPunk matches players based on their skill level, ensuring they face opponents of similar rank, whether they’re at the same tier or one tier above or below. Here’s a list of the game’s rank tiers, from the beginner level to the peak for the most experienced players:

1. Bronze

The initial rank for new players. Learning basic mechanics like aiming, movement, and core gameplay basics is what they're focused on. Players are still developing skills and figuring out FragPunk basics.

2. Silver

Silver players have a better grasp of game mechanics and start applying basic teamwork. They have a better idea about objectives, positioning, and countering basic strategies, but coordination and decision-making still need work.

3. Gold

At Gold, players need solid aim and teamwork. Coordination becomes the main focus, specifically strategies, counter-play, and map awareness. Players here are reliable, and matches become more organized as attention centers on teamwork

4. Platinum

Platinum players are experienced, with more advanced mechanics and improved decision-making. Team coordination and flexibility are important at this level. Players need to perform more intricate strategies, respond rapidly, and manage higher-level play on offense and defense.

5. Diamond

Diamond players enter Advanced Ranked Matches, where a draft mode is introduced. The players at this level are incredibly skilled, with extensive knowledge of tactics and coordination between their teams. Advanced strategies and counter-strategies are implemented, calling on the players to think several moves in advance.

6. Master

At the Master rank, players are professionals, possessing outstanding aim, coordination, and game sense. Accuracy and high-level tactics are paramount, and every game is competitive. Players execute quick, smart decisions, and the quality of play is extremely intense.

7. Punkmaster

The highest rank, which is for the best players in FragPunk. Punkmasters are experts in all areas of the game, including mechanics and strategy. They demonstrate perfect execution, superb coordination, and the capability to outwit opponents with sophisticated tactics. Only the elite players achieve this rank.

All ranks, apart from Punkmaster, contain multiple tiers that players must climb through. To ascend a tier, you must accumulate 100 ranked points. If you succeed in five consecutive matches, each further victory awards extra ranked points.

Fragpunk Rank System Shard Card system explained

If you're accustomed to competitive modes in other games, FragPunk's ranked system will be familiar. It operates by earning points to progress through various ranks. Players are given five placement matches to see where they start. However, the incorporation of Shard Cards is a unique feature that makes Fragpunk different from other competitive 5v5 shooters.

1. Shard Cards

Shard Cards offer abilities that enhance gameplay, such as boosting offense, defense, or providing team support.

2. Regular Ranked (Bronze – Platinum)

In Regular Ranked, players vote on which Shard Cards to use. Team members collaborate to select the cards they think will give them the best advantage.

3. Card Captain System (Diamond – Punkmaster)

In Advanced Ranked, a Card Captain is chosen to pick the team’s cards. This adds a strategic layer, as the captain plans and counters the opponent’s choices.

4. Pick/Ban Phase (Advanced Ranked)

Before matches, both teams engage in a pick/ban phase, where cards can be banned to prevent the opposing team from using them. This introduces an extra tactical layer to team strategy.

Shard Cards directly impact gameplay, influencing strategy by providing advantages in offense, defense, or objectives. Your card choices can make or break the match.
