Marvel Rivals [1] may be a third-person game instead of a first-person one, but that doesn’t mean aiming isn’t important. From characters like Hawkeye who requires precise aiming thanks to his bow to Iron Man who has his unibeam, sensitivity naturally takes a high priority in the list of things players must care about.
Aiming is extremely crucial in Marvel Rivals and we’re here to go through some tips players can use to practice their aiming in the game. These tips include using the Practice Range, shooting while moving to ensure the enemy can’t take you down easily, and changing the sensitivity to fit the player’s playing style.
So, without any further ado, here’s how to aim better in Marvel Rivals.
Tips to improve your aim in Marvel Rivals
The best ways to improve your aim in Marvel Rivals are utilizing the Practice Range, adjusting the sensitivity, and adjusting shooting while moving.
Utilize the Practice Range
Marvel Rivals is a third-person hero shooter, and obviously, good aim is essential to any shooter game. If you find that you’re having trouble shooting enemies and constantly missing shots, you should try spending about 10-15 minutes in the provided shooting range before your matches. You won’t get godly aim in such a short amount of time, however, progress and consistency are key to improving.
When you begin, you should focus on standing still and practice moving your crosshair from anywhere outside the target’s head to directly on their head and shooting it. Starting slow is important since the goal should be accuracy, not speed. This exercise aims to build your speed and accuracy, so you can develop a sense of shooting accurate shots fairly quickly. Practice this until you can easily click heads with a reasonable speed. This skill will slowly build and improve your aim.
Shooting while moving
Once you master the first exercise, try doing the same exercise but this time, move your character about while shooting. You don’t need to go fast, you just need to focus on accuracy. You can start by walking slowly and trying to hit those headshots. Then, gradually increase your movement speed until you can accurately click heads.
Practice shooting moving bots
Finally, once you’ve mastered shooting headshots while you're moving and while you aren’t, try standing still this time and moving your crosshair to follow the bot’s head. You don’t need to start shooting immediately, but having your crosshair ghosting the bot’s head accurately is important. There’s no point if you’re shooting but not hitting accurately, which defeats the whole purpose.
Once you’re comfortable following its head with your crosshair, move around with the bot too. Do the same thing, hovering your crosshair over its head while you both are moving. This process might be slow, and your aim won’t improve in a single day, but with effort and patience, you’re sure to improve in no time. Happy aim training!
Adjust Sensitivity Settings
If you’re still having trouble, you should check if your sensitivity settings aren’t too high or too low, but just right. A general practice to measure your sensitivity and be sure it’s at just the right setting is to go into the practice range and try swiping your mouse from left to right. It’s important that you can do a full 360-degree turn with one swipe of your mouse. If you find that you’re either going further or less than that, then it’s advised to switch up your sensitivity settings.
How to change Sensitivity Settings in Marvel Rivals
Firstly, press the cogwheel button on the top right of the menu and head over to settings.
If you’re playing on the Keyboard, go onto the Keyboard tab, otherwise, the Controller tab.
The mouse settings at the top are presented with a slider and a slot to input your specific sensitivity number.
How to turn off Mouse Acceleration in Marvel Rivals
Unlike other video games, Marvel Rivals doesn’t have a setting to toggle this feature on and off in-game yet. But not to worry- you can still turn it off or not to your liking for players on PC by manually altering the settings game file in a text editor app, such as Notepad.
Open the Run dialog (Windows+R)
Copy and paste the following path, replacing “YOURUSERNAMEHERE” with the user profile where you save data is stored:
If you’re unsure of your username, go to This PC > Windows > Users to find it.
Press Enter, and this will open the location of your system settings save file.
Right-click the GameUserSetting file and open it with Notepad.
At the bottom of the file, copy and paste the following line of code:
[/script/engine.inputsettings]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False
Save and close the file. You have now successfully disabled mouse smoothing and acceleration in Marvel Rivals.
You can add a second line of code below the previous one to override any other aim-processing sequences, ensuring that raw mouse input takes priority.
[/script/engine.inputsettings]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False
bDisableMouseAcceleration=False
RawMouseInputEnabled=1
FAQs
Which characters require the most aiming in Marvel Rivals?
While almost every ranged character requires some sort of aiming in Marvel Rivals, the two who need it the most are definitely Black Widow, Hawkeye, and The Winter Soldier. It’s important to note that Marvel Rivals has some melee characters as well, though some of them also have abilities players can use from afar,
We mentioned the above characters because they all have burst firing. Every time one of them shoots, they must wait before they can fire again. Therefore, it’s crucial to make every shot count and that’s where the importance of aiming comes in.
Do keyboard and mouse players have an advantage over controller players?
Definitely, keyboard and mouse players can aim better and faster thanks to the mouse being more accurate than controllers. Those with a mouse can simply react better, though the good thing about the game is that thanks to the various abilities players can make up for the lack of a mouse to level the playing field.
