Counter-Strike 2 [1] only has a handful of maps players genuinely like. However, not all of the fan-favorites from CS:GO have managed to make it to the sequel. Cache, for example, is a map that was present in CS:GO but isn’t in CS2 for multiple reasons, though there’s a chance it may make a return soon.
Esteemed Counter-Strike mapmaker FMPONE has officially released his long-anticipated Cache restoration for CS2, marking a major milestone for one of the franchise’s most beloved maps. The revamped version launched via the Steam Workshop on March 3, nearly six years after its removal from the official map pool in CS:GO.
Here’s what to know about FMPONE’s Cache map and if it’ll be added to CS2.
A Nostalgic Return with a Modern Look
Despite early leaks forcing an accelerated release, Cache’s CS2 version has been widely praised for maintaining its classic gameplay feel, while enhancing its visuals.
Key updates include:
Lighting upgrades for improved visibility
Refined textures and colors for a more vibrant aesthetic
Removal of excessive foliage from the 2019 remake
The only major gameplay tweak is the CT Mid window, which can no longer be accessed by platform or ladder, requiring defenders to boost instead.

Community Reaction
While many fans are thrilled about Cache’s return, one missing detail has sparked controversy, which is the removal of s1mple’s iconic graffiti.
The original CS:GO version of Cache featured a graffiti tribute to s1mple’s legendary falling double no-scope AWP kill. However, this homage is absent in the CS2 remake, dividing opinions among players.
Some believe it's removal is "tragic", erasing a legendary moment in Counter-Strike history. Others argue that new maps deserve new memories and that future CS2 highlights could earn fresh graffiti tributes. Since Cache is still under FMPONE’s ownership, Valve would need to purchase the map, similar to what they did with Anubis, if they decide to bring it back to CS2’s official map pool.
