Valorant Can't Change Resolution? Fixed

Valorant Can't Change Resolution? Fixed

Valorant is an FPS game, and therefore, it's crucial that players are able to react to things as quickly as possible if they want an advantage in matches. However, if the game doesn't let you change your resolution to the one you're more comfortable with, it's only naturally that you'll face difficulties.

If Valorant isn't letting you change your resolution, there are a couple of potential fixes you can try. For starters, you can check if your graphic drivers have any pending updates, and you can also verify and repair game files for Valorant. Alternatively, there are a couple of fixes that have reportedly worked for players like unplugging and replugging the monitor input and pressing alt+f4, and going to windowed mode.
If Valorant isn't letting you change your resolution then worry not because we're here with five fixes that are sure to help you with your issue.

Method #1: Ensure Your Graphic Drivers Don't Need Updating

The first thing you should do if your Valorant doesn't let you change your resolution is to ensure your graphic drivers don't need updating. While different graphic cards have different websites you have to visit if you want to download updates, it's typically the name of the company of the graphic card. For example, if you have an Nvidia graphic card, then you'll have to visit the official website for Nvidia.

From the website, you'll have to enter the model of your graphic card, and you'll come through various updates you can install. Once you find the appropriate driver for your graphics card model, download it to your computer. Follow the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer to install the updated drivers.

After the driver installation is complete, restart your computer. This step is important to ensure that the changes take effect and the new drivers are properly initialized. Updating your graphics drivers can resolve compatibility issues, improve performance, and potentially fix the resolution problem in Valorant.

Method #2: Verify Game Files and Repair

Valorant provides a built in feature that allows you to verify and repair game files. This process can help fix any corrupted or missing files that may be causing the resolution issue. Follow these steps to verify and repair the game files:

  1. Launch the Riot Games Launcher
  2. Navigate to the Valorant game page
  3. Look for a gear or settings icon, usually located in the top right corner of the Valorant game page. Click on it to access the settings menu.
  4. Select "Repair" to initiate the process of verifying and repairing game files.
  5. Finally, wait for the process to complete:

If there were any corrupt or missing files related to Valorant, this method will automatically detect and fix them. With this done, launch Valorant again and check to see if your problem has gone away.

Method #3: Ensure the In Game Settings Are Correct

Oftentimes, players accidentally apply the wrong settings and mistakenly assume that there's some underlying issue with the game. No need to be embarrassed, we've all been there at some point in our lives. Therefore, we recommend you go to the in game Valorant settings to ensure there isn't anything wrong from that front.

Alternatively, if you're having issues with going full screen in Valorant, we recommend you change the setting from 'windowed fullscreen' to just 'fullscreen'. After doing this, click on apply and check if your problem goes away. If you were using just 'fullscreen', do the opposite and change it to 'windowed fullscreen'.

Many players have reported that by messing with this specific setting, they were able to change their resolution to whatever they wanted and Valorant actually let that resolution stick. Hey, it doesn't hurt to try, right?

Method #4: Unplug and Replug Your Monitor Input

Not really much to say about this method. Many players have been able to fix their little resolution issue by simply unplugging and then replugging the monitor input from their PC. After all, it isn't mandatory for the problem to be something to do with the system, and sometimes all it takes to fix something is a good old fashion unplug and replug. As a matter off fact, this might also potentially boost FPS for Valorant too.

Method #5: Go to Windowed Mode First

If your Valorant just doesn't change the resolution despite you having changed it from the settings, one fix that has apparently worked for a lot of players is simply going to windowed mode and then manually going full screen again. To do this,

  1. First, ensure you've selected the right resolution settings
  2. Then, run the match. Of course, the resolution will not have been changed at this point.
  3. Then, tap alt+f4 to minimize the game.
  4. Click on Valorant from the bottom menu, and the game will be in windowed mode.
  5. Finally, double tap the top of the window, and the resolution should switch to the one you want.
