What VALORANT Ranks Can Play Together in 2026?

In 2026, VALORANT Competitive party rules depend on party size. Duos and trios must stay within Riot's current rank-disparity table, four-stacks cannot queue, and a full five-stack can include any combination of ranks. Mixed-rank five-stacks may receive reduced Rank Rating (RR).
The fast version: Iron and Bronze players can queue up to Silver; Silver can queue up to Gold; Gold can queue up to Platinum; and from Platinum upward, the highest player can be no more than exactly one tier above the lowest. Riot's Competitive Mode FAQ was updated May 17, 2026, so its live rules take priority over older patch-note examples.
VALORANT duo and trio rank compatibility table
For a two- or three-player Competitive party, find the lowest displayed rank in the group and use this table to determine the highest rank that can join:
Lowest rank in party
Highest rank allowed
Iron or Bronze
Silver
Silver
Gold
Gold
Platinum
Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal, or Radiant
Exactly one tier higher at most
At Platinum and above, the division number matters. Riot's example says Platinum 2 can queue with Diamond 2, but not Diamond 3. The same one-tier rule applies to a trio: adding a third player does not widen the permitted range.

Which Competitive party sizes are allowed?
Solo: Allowed.
Duo: Allowed when the ranks fit the table.
Trio: Allowed when every member fits the table.
Four-stack: Not allowed in Competitive.
Five-stack: Allowed with any combination of ranks, with possible RR reductions.
There is one additional party-size restriction at the top of the ladder: players ranked Immortal 1 and above can only queue solo, as a duo, or as a five-stack. They cannot enter Competitive as a trio.
Can any ranks play together in a five-stack?
Yes. Riot's current FAQ says a full five-player party is not bound by the duo/trio rank table. Its own example allows a team containing three Iron players and two Ascendant players. This is the exception that lets friends at very different ranks play Competitive together without using alternate accounts.
Five-stacks are matched against other five-stacks, so queue times can be longer. Rank disparity also changes how much RR the team can gain or lose:
If everyone is Ascendant 3 or below, the team receives a 25% RR reduction when anyone falls outside the normal duo/trio range.
If at least one player is Immortal 1 through Immortal 3, the team receives a 25% RR reduction.
If at least one player is Radiant, the team receives a 75% RR reduction.
If a Radiant queues with any non-Radiant player, the potential RR reduction becomes 90%.
A legal party is therefore not always an efficient climbing party. If RR matters more than playing together, keep the five players inside the ordinary rank range.
Why do older VALORANT guides show different RR penalties?
Patch 3.10 introduced unrestricted five-stacks in November 2021 and used older examples with 50%, 75%, and 90% reductions. Those figures explain the original system, but they are not the current general rule. Riot's live Competitive FAQ now lists the 25%, 75%, and 90% thresholds above.
Use the current FAQ for queue decisions and treat old patch notes as history. This avoids the two most common mistakes: applying the duo/trio table to a full five-stack, or copying a superseded RR percentage into a current guide.
