How to Prepare a 5–7-Player Roster for VALORANT Premier

How to Prepare a 5–7-Player Roster for VALORANT Premier
Listen to this post

Preparing for VALORANT Premier matches includes confirming the mode's eligibility, roster, scheduling, and match-limit rules while organizing a team plan for the predetermined weekly map. Teams can also choose practical routines for comms, warm-up, and review.

Confirm SMS verification, placements, account standing, restrictions, and roster size, then note the queue window and each player's match availability. For the team-controlled parts of preparation, this checklist uses a one-page map sheet, named call ownership, a repeatable warm-up log, and a VOD change that can be checked in a later Weekly Match. The checklist begins with Premier's eligibility and roster rules before moving into those team-made workflows.

Clear the SMS, placements, and standing gate first

VALORANT player checking phone before queueing

A game ban, Vanguard intervention, Competitive restriction, or comms restriction within the previous 30 days makes a player ineligible for Premier. Before queue, make one shared check sheet and have every player type YES beside: SMS verified, five Competitive placements completed, account in good standing, and no listed restriction in the previous 30 days. Riot's Premier docs say a player who gets one of those restrictions during Weekly Matches or playoffs is out for the rest of that Stage. Active Challengers League and International League roster players cannot play Premier either.

Use the Premier Hub schedule to check the local one-hour evening queue window before anyone starts warming up. Note whether each player is still available or has already reached the weekly match limit. The two-match weekly limit applies to each team and each player. Switching teams does not reset a player who already played two matches.

Premier requires a 5 - 7-player roster. Set the owner and captain now, then write the five expected starters and up to two backups. Once the team plays its first Stage match, the division and zone lock hits. Later invitees are allowed only when they do not change the division.

Build one page for the predetermined weekly map

Premier assigns one map for the week; it does not prescribe a minimum or optimal playbook. Use the known map to make an optional, editable worksheet.

  1. Record the map, date, chosen five, backup, composition, and role assignments.
  2. Choose an opening approach, attack plan, defense plan, and pistol intentions.
  3. Assign each utility job to a player and name backup coverage.
  4. Write the team's economy decisions, fallback triggers, and response to each trigger.

These are team-selected plans, not validated strategy requirements. Keep the sheet short enough to scan before queueing.

Give every call a voice and a trigger

"Comms better" is useless advice. The simple rule is one voice per event. This guide follows current amateur VALORANT comms advice: short calls, one primary rotation voice, quiet dead players unless they have new info, and a quick round-end debrief.

DecisionDesignated voiceRequired informationResponse trigger
Early contactFirst player with contactNumber, location, utility"Two B main, drone used"
RotationIGL or named callerConfirmed players, spike clue, timing"Three seen A; rotate one"
ExecuteEntry callerSite, first utility, pace"Hit A after recon"
Retake or saveIGLAlive count, ults, weapons"Three alive, both ults: retake"

Put real names in the voice column, plus a backup caller. After a round, say keep, change, or unclear. Keep it blunt.

Log warm-up instead of copying somebody else's ritual

A randomized within-subject crossover study of 16 Counter-Strike 2 or VALORANT players tested no warm-up, endurance warm-up, and reaction warm-up before four KovaaK's aiming tasks. It found no statistically significant effect of warm-up type on damage, hits, or accuracy, so the tested outcomes did not identify a universally superior condition. It was not a Premier study or a VALORANT-only cohort.

For my own pre-queue record, I log the routine, a plain-language readiness note, and one consistency note. Two deathmatches plus range bots. Ready. Overflicking left. That is enough to create an entry. After the match, I write felt stable, felt flat, or stopped early. The study's results also varied across individual participants.

The study does not establish a supported duration, task order, fatigue cutoff, or Premier-performance gain. For team process, I use a repeatable routine, record it, and adjust future entries based on what happened.

Turn one VOD moment into a named change

On Ascent A-side, Sova darts at 0:30, the IGL calls the rotate at 0:35, and Sage holds her corner instead of pushing. That example appears in Guild Order's VALORANT VOD Review Discipline guide. Use it as an optional workflow: review a decision, not every whiff.

Open the team recording, pause before one marked choice, and ask each involved role what they saw and what they decided. Fill five fields: change, owner, trigger, expected response, verification cue. Example: change: hold A one beat longer; owner: IGL; trigger: recon at 0:30 with no second attacker; expected response: one rotates and Sentinel holds; verification: check the match-two timestamp.

The guide prioritizes pattern detection, decision audit, and comp/pool review, with mechanics as individual homework. One team-side recording is a practical floor; per-player POVs add context. Neither is a proven intervention.

Use the second Weekly Match as a same-map test

If your team chooses to review between those matches, the later match provides an opportunity to check a recorded change under match conditions. Keep the change narrow rather than rebuilding the whole defense between Weekly Matches.

Read the change out loud and set a verification cue. During review, check whether the trigger and agreed response happened. That tests implementation, not improvement; opponents, economy, and round states are not controlled.

Open Premier Hub, click Schedule, confirm the window, mark available players, open the map sheet, and read the two named calls. Make the next decision less chaotic than the last one.

FAQs

Yes. Premier eligibility requires SMS account verification, completed ranked placements, and an account in good standing. If the account has had a game ban, Vanguard intervention, ranked restriction, or comms restriction in the last 30 days, it is not eligible to join or queue for Premier.
No. The repository shows a dedicated week-creation flow where team members can add Premier weeks by selecting the map and the days of the week. It also exposes week-related server-side logic, so this is built as a week-planning feature rather than a single static page.
