What are Plus moves in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

What are Plus moves in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Pokémon is one of the only game series that continuously improves its craft. From not even having color when it first came out to having a completely open world that players can explore freely without any restrictions in modern games, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the culmination of over two decades of Pokémon.

One of the airly new things that Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduces are Plus moves. Plus moves are different from regular moves since they let Pokémon deal extra damage in fights by channeling energy from the player’s Mega Ring.

If you were interested in Plus moves in Pokémon [1] Legends: Z-A, here’s what they are and how you can unlock them.

How are Plus moves different in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Plus moves in Pokémon Legends: Z-A are special moves that a Pokémon can master, letting them deal extra damage in fights. Pokémon can get this boost by channeling energy from the player’s Mega Ring. These movies are effective against powerful enemies, such as Alpha Pokémon, found throughout the game. Plus moves are an excellent tool for taking down power opponents due to their damage output.

The system for these moves becomes integrated into a Pokémon’s natural growth. After a point in the game, Pokémon will naturally have some of their moves turn into Plus moves as they level up, meaning the player’s team will become stronger and capable without them having to manually teach them enhanced abilities.

When do players unlock Plus moves in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Plus moves are locked behind story progression in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Players gain access to this mechanic after completing main mission 9, titled “Chase That Mysterious Pokémon!”. After completing the mission, AZ gives the player a Mega Ring, the device used to activate Plus moves.

After getting the Mega Ring from AZ, the Plus move system becomes active for the team. Players won’t need to find a specific item or trigger a story event for their Pokémon to start benefitting from that moment onward. The conversion of standard moves into their Plus versions happens automatically when Pokémon gain levels through experience.

How to use and teach Plus moves in Pokémon Legends Z-A?

Using a Plus move in battle requires a specific input and resource. A Pokémon that knows a Plus move will be marked with a special Plus icon on the move selection screen. If the Pokémon is not Mega Evolved, then the player must press the + button on their controller before selecting the move to activate its enhanced effect. However, players can only perform this action if they have at least one bar of Mega Ring energy available. If the Pokémon is Mega Evolved, then the process is simple since all of its moves will be treated as Plus moves.

To teach Pokémon new Plus moves aside from the ones they learn by leveling up, the player must progress further into the story. Defeating the character Josée in main mission 19, titled “Reaching Rank D”, players will unlock the ability to use Seeds of Mastery. Players can find Josée in the Justice Dojo, north of Saison Canalside. Seeds of Mastery are items used to teach a Pokémon a new Plus move. Players can get Seeds of Mastery by defeating Alpha Pokémon that have set spawn locations throughout the map. Seeds of Mastery are a farmable resource for players with a strong team because Alpha Pokémon can respawn.
