Jungle objectives are what make League of Legends [1] stand out from most competitors. With iconic monsters like the many dragons and even the Baron, every player in both teams wants to benefit from the buffs and boosts players get by defeating them. While things had previously primarily been the same, they changed with the inclusion of Atakhan and Voidgrubs.
With League of Legends 2025 Season 2, the Void Grubs and Atakhan are both seeing major reworks. In particular, the new Atakhan has the potential to change the game thanks to its added buff that gives the team who defeats it an AoE damage and a slow ability on enemy champion takedown.
Here’s what to know about the League of Legends 2025 Season 2 Atakhan and Void Grubs reworks.
What is Thornbound Atakhan in League of Legends?
Atakhan previously had two types of variants, which were Ruinous and Voracious. While one spawned multiple blood petals and gave a bonus to every jungle effect, the other gave a temporary false life players could use to rush into the enemy and make risky plays. However, they’re both being replaced by Thornbound Atakhan.
When defeated, the new Atakhan gives three primary boosts. The first is that defeating the Atakhan gives the team all remaining Bloody Roses on the map, alongside a bonus. Additionally, all the Bloody Petals are automatically purified into Spirit Petals, which give a 25% increased effect.
However, the biggest change, and the reason more players will likely go for this new Atakhan, is the Spiritual Purification buff. When granted, this buff will hit an AoE slow and damage attack every time a member of the team who defeated the Atakhan takes down an enemy champion. In addition to the automatic attack, which will be insane in team fights, take downs will also grant the team a Spirit Petal for every takedown. In a way, the team that takes down the Atakhan will have the potential to infinitely scale, even if the Blood Petals ultimately have a diminishing effect.

What is the change with the Void Grubs and Rift Herald?
While the Atakhan got a complete rework, the same doesn’t apply to the Void Grubs and Rift Herald. These two objectives will change their spawn times in League of Legends 2025 Season 2.
The Void Grubs now only spawn once per match, and later in the game. This is likely to ensure they don’t clash with the Dragon spawn times, since early Jungling was essentially one jungler going for the dragon, and the other going for Grubs. Additionally, the Rift Herald will now spawn at fifteen minutes and will be easier to take down since Shelly’s Gaze buff is removed.
