Pokémon [1] Legends: Z-A is no different in this regard, since the game has multiple status effects. These status effects include frostbite, burn, poison, paralysis, and sleep. Naturally, there are ways to cure status effects, and the items to do so can be bought from the Poke Mart.

What are Status effects in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?


Status effects are negative conditions that hinder a Pokémon in battle. They can lower stats, cause damage over time, or stop a Pokémon from acting. In the mainline Pokémon games, these effects have always been key to strategy, letting players wear down or disable strong opponents rather than relying on raw power alone.

The idea carries over to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but has been reworked for a more modern feel. The system redefines how these effects function by tying them directly to the game’s Action Order mechanic. This change transforms status conditions from simple sources of passive damage into powerful tactical tools that influence speed, turn flow, and overall battle tempo. It gives skilled players a deeper layer of control.

Every status effect in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

A Pokémon can only be afflicted by one major status condition at any time. If you apply a new major status, it will automatically override and cure the previous one. This critical rule forces trainers to choose the most strategically effective condition for the situation.

Frostbite: 


This status replaces the traditional “Freeze” condition. A Pokémon struck with Frostbite takes damage over time at the end of its turns, and its Special attack power is halved. This forces players to consider both offensive and defensive strategies against Special attackers.

Burn: 

Much like Frostbite, Burn causes damage over time at the end of a turn. Crucially, Burn halves the power of Physical moves used by the afflicted Pokémon. The damage taken from Burn and Frostbite is a flat amount, not a percentage of the Pokémon’s maximum HP, making it less punishing for high-HP Pokémon than in other games.

Poison: 


This condition causes damage over time at the end of each turn. Unlike the “Badly Poisoned” condition from other titles, there is no escalating damage variant in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Paralysis:

A paralyzed Pokémon has a chance not to act on its turn. Furthermore, and perhaps more important in the Legends system, Paralysis significantly lowers the Pokémon’s place in the Action Order, making it much slower. This delay allows the opponent to take multiple turns before the Paralyzed Pokémon can potentially act. Electric-type Pokémon like Pikachu can comfortably apply this status effect.

Sleep:

A sleeping Pokémon is unable to act for a certain number of turns. Once again, the impact of Sleep is closely tied to the Action Order, as the turns skipped often allow the opponent to gain a massive advantage.

Players can heal their Pokémon’s status conditions with status healing items, found throughout Lumiose City, often obtained by exploring different areas or completing quests. These items can quickly remove effects like paralysis, poison, or sleep, keeping your team ready for the next battle. Volatile (Minor) conditions are temporary and can stack alongside a singular Major status. The best example is “Drowsy”, caused by moves like “Yawn”. A Drowsy Pokémon has a chance to skip its turn and also suffers from reduced Action Order priority. Applying a Minor status like “Drowsy” and pairing it with a Major status like “Burn” creates a powerful stacked status effect. The Major status causes damage and power reduction, plus turn-skipping chance and speed reduction from the Minor status.
