Here's why Valorant won't be part of the Esports World Cup

Here's why Valorant won't be part of the Esports World Cup

Valorant is one of the most popular competitive FPS games around, despite games like CS2 and Overwatch 2 being around. The player base and fan base of Riot’s FPS is huge, which is why it comes as a surprise that Valorant won’t be included in the Esports World Cup that’s expected to take place in 2024.

Today, we’re here to dissect everything we know about Valorant and its absence in the upcoming Esports World Cup. This includes why the game won’t be in the World Cup as well as which other tournaments you can tune into this year to get your Valorant fix.

So, without further ado, here’s why Valorant won’t be part of the Esports World Cup 2024.

Why Valorant won’t be included in the Esports World Cup in 2024

The 2024 Esports World Cup that will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has excluded Riot Games’ competitive shooter Valorant from the event, which has made a lot of noise in the gaming community considering how popular the title is.

The main reason why Valorant isn’t in the Esports World Cup is due to scheduling conflicts, as the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2024 is also taking place around the same time. The VCT has regular seasons, and playoffs throughout the year, making it overlap with most of the World Cup’s timeframe from July 4 to August 25. Riot Games will prioritize its championship series so players and teams can focus on the VCT without any issues.

Will Valorant be in any future Esports World Cup?

Even Though Valorant isn’t included in the current Esports World Cup, Riot has shown signs of interest in the event since they signed a one-year contract with the Esports World Cup Foundation. Since League of Legends is already on the roster, this step could mean Valorant might have a good chance of showing up in future events if Riot can work on the aforementioned scheduling conflicts.

What controversies are surrounding the Esports World Cup?

Many players have voiced their concerns about Saudi Arabia, a country known for its human rights record, particularly about issues relating to LGBTQ+ rights and women’s rights. These concerns have led fans to believe that the nation is “sportswashing” by using high-profile events to make itself look better.

How many games are in the Esports World Cup?

Despite Valorant not being in the Esports World Cup roster, the event still boasts 20 different titles for players to compete in and fans to watch. Some games in the World Cup include Counter-Strike 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, Tekken 8, and PUBG.

What’s interesting is that Riot’s League of Legends is on the roster too, which could mean that Valorant could show up sometime in the future.

Some reports suggest that Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone might also be included in the roster sometime in the future.

FAQs

How does the Valorant community feel about the game’s absence in the Esports World Cup?

Valorant not being included in the Esports World Cup has made the community feel disappointed and left out because professional players and teams have made too much effort to not be at one of the most high-profile events in the gaming world. Still, as mentioned earlier, Riot is supporting the game through its events and constantly updating it by adding and changing things.

Is Riot banned from the Esports World Cup?

No. As mentioned above, League of Legends is on the Esports World Cup roster, which means the head of the tournament doesn’t have any issues with Riot Games as a whole. Instead, this issue stems from scheduling conflicts and will likely be overturned next year.
