League of Legends is one of the most popular games of all time. Being a free-to-play game with a bustling competitive scene, the game consistently comes in the news for all the right reasons. However, League of Legends has a poor reputation on the internet among various gamers, prompting some to be apprehensive about playing it.
Many people who haven’t ever touched League of Legends came to know of the game’s world thanks to the insanely popular animated Netflix series Arcane. Naturally, there’s a big difference between actually playing the game and just enjoying its lore through an episodic series. However, we’re sure some can’t help but wonder if they should get into League of Legends purely on the basis of loving Arcane.
Today, we’re here to answer this frequently asked question to ensure those who haven’t played League of Legends but love Arcane can know if they should try their hand at the Riot Games MOBA.
What is League of Legends?
League of Legends is a competitive online game on PC where two teams of five people compete. Everyone selects a character, and they try to destroy the opponent team’s base to win.
The game is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, shortened for MOBA. MOBAs are strategy games where players fight on a battlefield with different lanes and small NPC units that go toward the enemy base and attack them. In LoL, these units are called minions. Killing minions or enemies strengthens the player's character by spending whatever currency they get, which assists in escorting minions and teammates toward the opponent's base to destroy their final building.
The description seems simple, but each game has so many variables that players never experience the same type of match. Thankfully, unlike other MOBAs, League of Legends is easier to learn.
Why should someone play League of Legends?
League of Legends is one of the most popular multiplayer games, reaching an incredible peak player count of 180 million players with more than 32 million daily players. The game can get tough in higher ranks, and it can turn away some people due to how disheartening it can be, but many players still enjoy the title despite the game being over 15 years old.
The game is F2P or free to play, so no one needs to spend any money to try it out. All they need to do is go to the Riot Games website and download the League of Legends client. The Riot title isn’t pay-to-win so everyone is on an even playing field. The only form of monetization in LoL is cosmetics, where people can buy new costumes for their favorite characters.
One of the best things about LoL is its huge character roster, consisting of over 160 characters, so players can find someone that suits their playstyle. If they don’t like one champion, they can try a different one. If a person has seen Arcane, they’ve already gotten an idea of some LoL characters and their specializations, like Jinx, so they have a place to start looking, with many more to discover.
How does one get good at League of Legends?
The massive character roster can get overwhelming for new players. Luckily, they can start with whatever people they know from the show and move to other people they see in the game. The player must ensure they don’t skip the tutorials because it’ll be tough to understand the game without them. They should take as much time as they want and go through all the tutorials to figure out how the game works and every type of character.
After that, the player can queue up for PvE matches that will function the same as regular matches, but the opponents will be bots. In this mode, players can experiment with different tactics and try out as many characters as they want to find what their favorite playstyles and characters are.
LoL is a rewarding game, especially if someone learns the title with their friends. Gather a group of people to play with and learn the game with them because it’s fun to learn and try out new strategies with others who are also new. The only way to improve in multiplayer games like this is to keep playing and understand the best strategies. A good shortcut for this is to hire a professional coach from Eloking to give a few pointers and key strategy tips.

What characters from Arcane are in League of Legends?
Almost every major character from Arcane is playable in League of Legends, and all of them have unique abilities and play styles that offer different gameplay.
For example, the fan-favorite character Jinx is a long-ranged ADC played in the bot lane. She gets a damage and speed boost every time she does a takedown, which makes her incredibly strong near the end of the match.
Vi is a brawler with a lot of mobility. She can chase opponents from far away and can ruin whatever they try to do, making her a great jungler.
Caitlyn is an ADC who plays on bot lanes similar to Jinx. He has the highest basic attack range in the game thanks to her hextech sniper that lets her damage and kill targets from afar.
Ekko is a midlaner and assassin whose ultimate ability allows him to rewind himself in time and who can safely play aggressively.
Ekko’s friend Heimderdinger is also a midlaner, but unlike Ekko, he’s more passive and plays from behind.
Viktor is another midlaner in League of Legends, but he’s different from his Arcane counterpart. Viktor deals great damage thanks to his lasers and abilities.
Players can try out Jayce, who is usually situated in mid or top lanes because his ability lets him change between ranged and melee, so he’s very adaptable.
People think Singed is one of the toughest to play against characters in the game because he leaves a toxic trail wherever he goes, preventing others from chasing him.
Ambessa is one of the newest champions in the game, with high mobility as she can dash after using every ability. This puts her in the running for the fastest characters in League of Legends, which lets her 1v1 opponents safely.
Although Warwick wasn’t in the first season, he will appear in the second season of Arcane. He’s a werewolf who can chase down enemies with low health and is one of the easiest junglers in the game.
FAQs
Is Arcane canon in the League of Legends universe?
Absolutely. Arcane is confirmed to be canon in the overall League of Legends universe as it follows Champions that are playable in the game. These Champions include Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Ekko, and Jayce.
As a matter of fact, Arcane’s popularity helped boost many of these character’s popularity. Some like Jayce used to be overlooked in exchange for more popular characters, but Arcane helped humanize them.
