5 Tips to Improve Movement in Overwatch 2

5 Tips to Improve Movement in Overwatch 2

What's the most important thing in an FPS game like Overwatch 2 and Valorant? Having good aim? Being able to stay alive longer? Perhaps it's responding to calls from your teammates quickly? Well, what if we told you that by mastering one mechanic you'll be closer to mastering all these other mechanics as well? We are, of course, referring to the movement mechanic.

Some tips for improving movement in Overwatch 2 include knowing how every movement key affects your heroes in the game, having precise map knowledge, knowing how to utilize that knowledge, and experimenting with sensitivity. Learning how to utilize abilities to increase or improve movement is also key.

We'll be going through five key tips for improving movement in Overwatch 2, with all of them covering different aspects of the movement mechanic.

Tip #1: Know How Your Hero Moves

This might sound a little weird at first, but most players don't really know how the movement keys actually affect their characters. The prime example we have of this is the effect the left and right strafe keys have.

Many players quickly press the right and left movement keys when they want to avoid gunfire without realizing that if they move left and then right too quickly, they'll end up just staying in the same place.

One very good trick for seeing how your character moves better is by downloading and installing a third person mod to use in a custom match. Since Overwatch 2 is a first person game, it's hard to accurately make sense of your character's movement otherwise.

Tip #2: Have Good Map Knowledge

Movement doesn't just mean how you move in gun fights. It also relates to how quickly you're able to cover ground when out of a fight. For example, it determines how quickly you could get from point A to point B, or how quickly you can assist your team after respawning.

Of course, gathering map knowledge is important to improve out of battle movement, but many players complain that although they have map knowledge, they aren't able to properly utilize it to an extent that it actually has an effect on their gameplay. If this is the case with you, then the next tip should solve this problem for you as well.

Tip #3: Watch Professional Games

Regardless of which game it is, no one plays it better than a professional player, except maybe another professional player. Watching high level tournaments of Overwatch 2 will allow you to learn new strategies and map knowledge utilization routes that you can then apply to your actual matches.

Additionally, watching professional players play the game also teaches you how to best utilize certain abilities that heroes might possess, such as Junkrat and Tracer.

Tip #4: Perfect Hero Abilities

Just to expand a little more on the importance of hero abilities, there are certain heroes such as Genji and Tracer who rely completely on their unpredictable movement coupled with their abilities. After all, both the heroes we mentioned have dash abilities that, while different in essence, eventually accomplish the same goal which is to dash in a certain direction.

Knowing these abilities like the back of your hand will allow you to eventually start subconsciously using them during gunfights to gain the movement advantage. In high rank (or high ELO) games, you'll find that pretty much every player tries to use heroes that have abilities such as these.

In countless high level tournament matches, there have been cases where a player was able to get away from an otherwise impossible situation all thanks to a well placed Sombra teleporter or Junkrat bomb.

Tip #5: Have a Professional Show you the Ropes

The last and perhaps the most important tip we can give you for improving movement in Overwatch 2 is to play with professional or highly skilled players, preferably ones who can spot the flaws in your movement and correct them in an orderly manner.

If you don't have someone like this, then it's possible to hire a professional from Eloking to do this for you. Not only will that professional help you win matches regardless of how high or low your rank is, but will also be more than willing to give you some tips on how to improve your in game movement.

Additionally, having someone who knows what it means to move like a pro is a HUGE advantage for players looking to improve in this mechanic for themselves.
