Riot Games continues to release new content for their star FPS game Valorant, and the upcoming patch is set to change things up. Information about a brand new map has been leaked, and fans can’t wait for its arrival so they can jump right into the Abyss.
Today, we’ll go through everything we know about Valorant’s new map Abyss. This includes potential themes and when players can get to try the map out for themselves. Naturally, we’ll also speculate a little to get to the bottom of what it is Riot Games is cooking up and whether players will actually like it.
So, if you’ve been waiting for something new in Valorant, keep reading because the game is about to change. If you want to quickly learn the upcoming map to ensure you get a competitive advantage we HIGHLY recommend you hire a professional-level Valorant coach from Eloking when it comes out. Not only can you quickly learn the map this way but the code “BoostToday” can give you a 20% discount too.
Everything about the new Valorant map
The upcoming map coming to Valorant is called Abyss, and it may introduce new mechanics to the game. However, unfortunately, not much is known about the map itself, although that hasn’t stopped players and fans from speculating.
Abyss might be set in an underwater environment, making it the second aquatic-themed map after Pearl. The design showcases multiple underwater elements, such as ruins and a blue theme.
Some people believe that the map is not underwater but an actual abyss underground, which would also make sense considering the dark tone of the leaked picture. However, an underground map would be a first, especially since every single map in Valorant showcases the sky to players. Having an underground map would mess with the theme, and might even cause lighting problems.
What is the new Valorant map’s release date
Players won’t have to wait long to try out Abyss, as the new map is set to launch in the upcoming update. Patch 8.11 is slated to release between June 11, 2024, and June 12, 2024, after which players can play on Abyss and explore it.
The servers will go under maintenance before the new update goes live, as with every new patch, so eager fans must wait a bit. The servers are expected to go offline around 11th June at 6:00 am PT and back online around 10:00 am PT.
Riot Games usually releases one map in an Episode, so players will have to wait about six months for the next one to start, after which they can expect another map.
What fans want in the upcoming map
Every Valorant map has its gimmick that sets it apart. Fracture has a huge hole in the middle of the map players can zipline across, Bind has teleporters that attackers and defenders can go through, and Lotus has spiral doors that anyone can open at any time. Fans of the game want Abyss to have a gimmick, more specifically, verticality.
Since the map is called Abyss, players have suggested that it might have random holes where players could fall from and die immediately, which would complement and fit the map’s namesake. Someone else suggested that the map may have the two bomb sites in the same area but on different floors, similar to what Nuke has in Counter-Strike 2.
With so many different ideas being thrown around, fans agreed on one thing and that was the removal of Breeze. Valorant players dislike the map, and almost everyone is celebrating Breeze’s removal, saying that Breeze should never be brought back into the competitive pool.
