What is the New LoL Mastery Level?

The mastery system in League of Legends sees a massive change in a recent update. The previous cap of 7 on mastery level has now been increased to 10. The change now allows players to continue leveling up their champions indefinitely, meaning players can continue their progression after they hit the new milestone. 

Riot has also replaced the S-grade tokens with “Marks of Mystery”, which are earned through good performances and are important for advancing past Mastery Level 4. 

The update comes with a range of visual updates to celebrate players’ achievements. New mastery crests and emotes have been added to show a player’s progress and achievements. The crests and emotes are displayed prominently, so players can show off their accomplishments. 

Riot’s aim with these changes and additions is to make the player experience better. The intention behind the continuous leveling system is to provide players something to constantly work towards after reaching the maximum level.

How to level up in the new Mastery System?

You are now awarded “Marks of Mystery” based on your performance in matches. Replacing the S-grade tokens, these marks are crucial for advancing past Mastery Level 4. You can earn marks by achieving high grades in their games, which are impacted by a few factors such as your kills, assists, deaths, and overall contribution to the team’s success. 

To advance their mastery levels, players must perform consistently in matches, adding a new layer of challenge. To efficiently level up, you’ll need to adapt your gameplay strategies to earn marks. You can do this by focusing on objectives, maintaining a high kill-to-death ratio, and contributing to team fights. Doing this can hugely impact the grades you receive at the end of a match. 

Focus on refining your playstyle and prioritize teamwork to maximize your performance. Choose the champions that you are most comfortable with and can consistently perform well. Each champion has its reward track that resets every split, which is why planning your champion rotation is key to maximizing your progress.

Reactions to the LoL Mastery Level changes

Players have come out and expressed their dissatisfaction with the changes. A common complaint is that the new system makes things too difficult and doesn't align with the players’ expectations. One player noted that if the current mastery system had been in place since the game’s release, they would’ve needed to achieve 5 S grades per day to reach their current mastery level, highlighting the difficulty. 

Apart from the system, players are also disappointed with the overall design looking unfinished and not worth paying attention to. Some players speculate the system passed quality control simply because it was expected to increase the average time players spent in-game, rather than offering any meaningful improvements to the mastery experience.
