How to Change CS2 Bot Difficulty?

How to Change CS2 Bot Difficulty?

Bots in CSGO had a reputation for being, well, terrible. Fortunately, it looks like CS2 has fixed this issue by a lot, but the fact remains that the bots are still all too easy. Therefore, players aren't able to get any sort of worthwhile practice when playing against them. With that being said, at least increasing the difficulty of these bots makes the process a little bit better.

Now, there are two ways players can change the bot difficulty in CS2. The first is by doing so before the match starts, by selecting the bot difficulty option after setting a game with bots. Alternatively, if you want to do so while in a match, then you simply have to open the console and input the "bot_difficulty" command followed by the difficulty you want to set.

If you're tired of having to go up against super weak bots then worry no longer. We bring you both the ways you can change the bot difficulty in CS2, just like we gave two methods for inspecting skins in CS2.

What Bot Difficulty Options Are There For Bots in CS2?

Before knowing how to change the difficulty settings of bots, it might be a good idea to know what to expect from every difficulty. In CS2, you'll find four main difficulty settings:

Method 1: Selecting the Bot Difficulty Before Starting the Match

The first method we want to go through is adjusting the difficulty of CS2 bots without having started the match. This method is the simplest way to adjust bot difficulty, especially if you want to play against bots without using console commands. Here's how to do it:

  1. Begin by launching CS2. Ensure you are at the main menu of the game.
  2. CS2 offers various game modes, To play against bots with adjustable difficulty, select one that allows you to play with bots
  3. Before initiating the match, you'll find that there will be an option titled 'bot difficulty' on the screen.
  4. Click on the "Bot Difficulty" option to reveal a list of available difficulty levels
  5. Once you've selected the desired bot difficulty, return to the main menu. From there, you can initiate the match with your chosen settings.

Using this method, all bots that spawn in the match will spawn in with the difficulty you set. This is an extremely convenient way of changing the bot's difficulties, and therefore, is the recommended method.

Method 2: Using the bot_difficulty Console Command

Alternatively, if you end up accidentally starting a match, or realize too late that you should change the bot difficulty, then the second method is for you.

Before we go through the steps, however, you need to enable the developer console in CS2. To do this, go to the game's settings menu, select "Game," and make sure the "Enable Developer Console" option is set to "Yes."

With the developer console enabled, now you should start a match with bots added. When you load into the match, you have to open the developer console, which is done by tapping the "~" button on your keyboard.

In the developer console, you have to type in "bot_difficulty" followed by the number or text representing the difficulty you want to set for the bots.

So, for example, if you want to change the bot difficulty to hard, then you'll type bot_difficulty 2 or bot_difficulty hard. With the console command entered, simply tap the enter key and the difficulty of all the bots will change.
