Top 5 best beginner tips for the Swarm game mode in League of Legends
Riot Games brings back a PvE mode to League of Legends after almost six years called Swarm. Like other PvE modes, the gameplay is different from the standard MOBA style.
While it may seem with new maps and enemies, understanding Swarm isn’t difficult. Just follow these tips to make the adventure easier:
5- Play with others
It’s better to play the game with friends like other multiplayer PvE titles. While players can enjoy the game solo, the experience is always better with friends, and it also provides various advantages that make the mode easier.
When there is a higher number of people in the session, defeating enemies becomes easier. A team of friends can also try out numerous team compositions for the mode. Another great benefit is that matches go on longer because teammates can revive one another if someone goes down, which can't happen when playing solo. The best part is that every player in the match shares gold and experience, so the rate of evolution is quicker.
4- Avoid Chokepoints
One of the problems players face in Swarm is when they face off lots of enemies and get cornered in areas. A way to face this challenge is to master the main mechanic, character movement.
A lot of enemies start spawning in the late-game phase of the mode, and it’s tough to face them when cornered, so it’s essential to stay away from chokepoints that can overwhelm players by the sheer number of opponents. Try to stay in bigger areas where the team can reposition and retreat.
3- Look around the entire map
In the early stages of the mode, when there aren’t a lot of enemies lurking around, explore the map as much as possible. By studying the map, the entire squad can find various loots, such as health or gold, that can help throughout the game.
Other items like Upgrade cards are in the minimap that players can collect and use. Using Upgrade cards allows someone to obtain a free item without the level-up requirement a champion needs or receive Miss Fortune Spires, which strengthens some traits of a champion for a bit.
2- Don’t be afraid to use abilities
It’s common for people to not spam abilities in League of Legends matches so they can use it later, but that won’t work in Swarm because of different mechanics. In Swarm, players can only use the E and R abilities, which are unlocked at level 3 and level 6, respectively.
It’s a good idea to use the E ability for crowd control since those are helpful when a large number of opponents surround a player. For example, Jinx can create a lot of space for herself with her E ability, while someone like Briar is also useful, but a player must be good at the character to be helpful.
1- Use the gold obtained in Swarm matches
Completing objectives or picking up gold coins on the map will provide players with gold they can use after Swarm matches. Fans can exchange these credits for permanent upgrades, similar to roguelike titles like Hades.
It’s hard to recommend a specific build for the mode since it depends on the person’s playstyle, so try out every combination to see what’s the best fit. Some champions favor a lot of specific boosts, whereas others won’t as much, like how Jinx benefits greatly from Ability Haste and greater damage.
